“I wrote a thing.” “What?! When?!” “Last night.” “All in one sitting?” “Yes.” “Did you proofread? Did you edit?” “No.” “Please tell me you didn’t…” “I did.” “Oh. My. G-“ “Don’t be so dramatic.” “It’s published?!” “Released into the wild.” “You monster!” “Oh, you’ve read it?”

“Jeez! This weather.” “You complain no matter the temperature.” “I do not.” “You complained at the Upper Pole. And the Lower Pole.” “Yes, extreme temp…” “You complained at the equator.” “Also extr…” “You complained in the mildest temperate zones.” “That’s not fair.” “See?”

“Sire, we have perfected the spell.” “I’ve changed my mind.” “But, Sire, it has already been cast.” “Recall it.” “You said, and I quote, ‘Prepare and launch a spell that will end all magic.’” “Not what I said, foul mage! Recall the spell!” “Same result, Sire.”

“What did I say?” “Clean my room. Run diagnostics. Burnish the Paradox Core fuel rods.” “And, yet, here you sit. Staring into space.” “It’s just that I…” “#Yearn for adventure?” “Yes.” “Well, you could square away the airlock.” “How’s that…” “Without a suit.” “Mom!” @SciFanSat

“…like when you skip a stone.” “Expanding concentric circles.” “Correct. That’s our universe.” “What happens when they collide?” “What?” “Each skip produces a new set of circles. Eventually those circles … meet.” “It’s just an analogy.” “You can’t spell ripple without R.I.P.”

“So, somewhere in the multiverse I’m happy?” “You mean other than here?” “Oh, no, I’m quite miserable.” “Even knowing that somewhere you’re happy…and somewhere else you’re the happiest person on the planet?” … “So, somewhere in the multiverse I’m miserable?”

“You have to stop this!” “What? You told me to.” “No, I said try to see things through his eyes.” “I tried.” “You plucked out his eyes.” “Yes. Didn’t help at all.” “You idiot! That’s not what I meant!” “I know that now.” … “Why is there a blinded deer in the yard?” “Hind sight.”

“It can’t be that easy.” “It is.” “This used to require decades of study, hours of concentration, and supreme competence.” “Our micro-ward technology comes standard in every can.” “One coat?” “You’ll need primer for even coverage and protection.” “Just…wow.” “Matte or satin?”

“It winked at me.” “It did not.” “It did!” “Son, it’s … millions? … of light years away. A lot can happen over that much space.” “But…” “C’mon. Time for bed. More stargazing tomorrow night.” His father tucked him in. “G’night, Grandpa.” {G’night,} Grandpa winked in reply.

“Why is the sky blue, Dad?” “Catastrophic system failure.” “Huh?” “System crash.” “Huh?” “You’ve played 16 hours of high-res games, yes? Run out of RAM?” “Often.” “And your monitor by the end?” {gasp} “Blue screen of death.” “Yep.” “Wait. What about the night sky?” “Reboot.”
