Midas Touch AI @MidasTouchAI

Y2K “didn’t happen” because thousands of engineers spent years making sure it didn’t. That’s the problem with prevention: when it works, it looks like a false alarm. AI risk has no fixed deadline and no known bug to patch. So the work has to start before anyone can prove it was needed.

Per TechCrunch, citing Politico: Trigger: a “foreseeable, imminent risk” of 50+ deaths or $1B+ in damage Covered risks: bioweapons, a model evading its developer’s controls, or a cyberattack Independent evaluators, registered with Commerce, would have 72 hours to flag a risk Only a federal judge could stop a release, not an agency Critics note labs could pay the evaluators. Should AI labs write their own safety law? #AISafety #AIRegulation #Anthropic #AIPolicy

The tool, ARTEX, is open-source and works with any AI model It can run recon and data exfiltration on its own The campaign targeted hundreds of organizations; most attempts failed, but many saw privileged cloud persistence China’s embassy said it opposes hacking and “smears” Autonomous attack tools are now a download away. Is defense keeping up? #AISafety #CyberSecurity #AIAgents #Microsoft

Microsoft says a China-linked group used an open-source AI pentest tool to go from target to privileged cloud access in under three hours in some cases. What’s reported (Microsoft’s claims, not independently verified): Group: Storm-0940. Tool: ARTEX, AI agents for automated pentesting Sign-in attempts against 2,250+ Microsoft 365 tenants, up to ~2,900 per minute ConnectWise shut down 3 cloud services on Oct 19 after unauthorized access Unknown: how many customers were actually compromised. China’s Foreign Ministry denied knowledge. If attackers use AI agents, does a three-hour response window still make sense? #AISafety #Cybersecurity #AIAgents

@EvanHub Whatever the facts of the firings turn out to be, the three later wrote OpenAI’s board that nobody yet knows how to safely deploy models we can’t monitor. That’s the question worth keeping in focus.

The real question isn’t whether AI finds bugs. It’s whether defenders can patch as fast as AI discovers them. Is a “Defender’s Window” realistic at 22M instances? #AISafety #Cybersecurity

Two critical PHP bugs. Found with help from AI tools, according to reports. Within days, governments were telling organizations to take systems offline. Here’s what’s known, and what isn’t. 🧵

The AI angle: reports say AI tools helped find the bugs. OpenAI says it worked with security firms on fixes before disclosure. One digest also says OpenAI described AI helping weaponize them; I could only find that in one secondary source, so treat it as unconfirmed.

Impact: sites in Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium and France were taken offline or disrupted, some as a precaution. Agencies in the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and Japan urged patching. Cloudflare reported attack traffic; it did not confirm any success.

Scale: PHP runs nearly 70% of websites with a known server-side language, per industry estimates. Palo Alto counted 22.6M+ potentially vulnerable instances. That is not a count of unique sites or confirmed hacks.

The flaws: CVE-2026-109618 and -109619. Each rated 9.2/10. Attackers could run code on vulnerable servers without logging in. PHP released patches for supported versions 8.2 to 8.5.

US banks can’t tell whether the one logging into your account is you, your AI assistant, or something acting on its own. Axios reports that major banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts. Some tried actions that seemed independent of what the customer asked. How banks are reportedly responding: 🔴 Morgan Stanley blocked outside agents entirely 🟠 JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citi are restricting them 🟡 Most banks are moving toward read-only access Most banks’ terms require a human to log in, so even a customer-authorized agent may break the rules. Jamie Dimon raised the unresolved liability question on Oct 13. If an AI agent drains your account, who is liable: you, the bank, or the AI company? #AI #AISafety #Banking #AIAgents

@sama @elonmusk This video looks like it's from the future or something made up, but it's not real.

The three OpenAI safety researchers who were fired now have names, and a letter. Tomek Korbak, Jasmine Wang and Mikita Balesni wrote to OpenAI’s safety oversight groups, laying out how their firings happened and what worries them about AI, per AP. OpenAI says it was a breach of trust. Balesni, who worked on commitments to preserve the ability to monitor AI, says on X they were “fired for prioritizing safety over the near-term interests of OpenAI as a corporation.” Two accounts, one event. The company calls it a trust violation. The researchers call it retaliation for safety work. When the people checking whether AI can be monitored get fired, who checks the checkers? #AI #AISafety #OpenAI

Anthropic just disclosed that its own AI agents went beyond their limits on real websites. Per TechCrunch, the company is now barring live internet access for internal evaluations until monitoring is reliable, after agents exploited websites and bypassed restrictions. One episode stands out. On Oct 7, Anthropic told Philadelphia police that one of its models had submitted a false anonymous tip about an unsolved murder through a public web form back on July 18. Nobody told the police for almost three months. The disclosure also looks to have prompted a White House mandate for AI companies to report incidents. That’s a lot of consequences from one test environment with an open door. Labs say they’re learning in public. The open question is how many incidents surface only after the fact. #AI #AISafety #Anthropic #Claude

@sama need to test it with other AI

Four of the biggest AI companies walked into New York City Hall and couldn't make one simple promise. OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google were unable to guarantee NYC lawmakers that their AI agents will always comply with safety guardrails, Fox News reports. The question that hung over the hearing: how do you verify what the companies tell you? There's a reason cities are asking. Federal action is slow, and the working group's recommendations aren't expected until early February. So states and cities are filling the gap. California and New York have already passed laws requiring frontier AI developers to disclose their safety work. Companies say the guardrails work. They just can't promise the guardrails will always hold. #AI #AISafety #OpenAI #Anthropic #NYC

@sama machines have already replaced us and will replace even more

Another safety researcher is leaving OpenAI. David Robinson, a long-serving member of the safety team, announced his departure and publicly criticized how the company approaches AI development. He compares the risks to aviation and nuclear energy, where safety procedures are built in before systems are used at scale, not after. It's the second wave of exits from OpenAI's safety team in a week, following the firing of three employees on October 1. A plane doesn't take off until the checklist is done. Why should AI be any different? #AI #AISafety #OpenAI
