Jesus wept. The clearest and most succinct response to those who are grieving—is to grieve with them. Then He did something only God can do—He raised Lazarus from the dead. Now while we cannot raise anyone from the dead, we are "in Christ" (Gal. 2:20) and we can go to Him with prayer and ask for His power to show mercy and grace to the grieving.

What is God’s purpose? God is not hidden behind creation. He has spoken through every physical law, every boundary, and every beautiful pattern. Nothing is accidental. If God is the Creator, then the cosmos is far more than random events or cosmic coincidence. It is an intentional act. And every intentional act flows from purpose. This makes the question deeply personal: What is God saying about why we are here? mikegrayson.com/pub/explore/wh…

I'm a big believer that we ought to know what the purpose of life is so we can live it well.

@DrFrankTurek Because Christ actually was alive and the evidence is overwhelming. The places and events in the Bible are real and have been verified by archeology. These things are true and Christianity is worth considering.

Legislating Morality Every society legislates morality. Every law ever written declares that one behavior is right and another is wrong. Laws against murder, theft, fraud, assault, and perjury are all moral judgments. Even those who insist that morality should never be legislated unknowingly rely on moral laws every day, because the moment we prohibit one action or protect another, we have declared that one choice is better than the other. The real question, then, is not whether morality should shape society. It always does. The deeper question is far more important: Whose morality will it be? mikegrayson.com/pub/explore/wh…

@Smultronnos @ericmetaxas LOL. Everyone has cognitive biases, it’s part of human nature. The question is much deeper than that. It comes down to who decides what is true. mikegrayson.com/pub/explore/wh…

First of all, modern science and DNA research points to a common ancestor. I absolutely believe that God created this universe. You can read what I believe in a book I wrote title “Black Holes and Other Works of God”. It is an examination of quantum physics and what it reveals about us and the world in which we live. You will find excerpts on my website at MikeGrayson.com.

@CmSpare1 @ericmetaxas Old Testament?

Genesis 9:5 establishes God’s claim over human life, and verse 6 explains how accountability for murder is to be carried out. An interpretation of this verse as being against capital punishment is very problematic. Just in Exodus alone there are more than a dozen rules involving capital punishment. In John 8 Jesus showed grace and mercy to the adulteress who, under the law, was condemned to death. So, what we have here is revelatory doctrine. God revealed (clarified) the circumstances under which capital punishment was merited—and Christ taught us mercy and grace. But Romans 13 clearly delegates the authority for justice to the governing powers.

Excellent response. I agree with two of the points they considered. 1. State penal sanctions as oriented toward rehabilitation and reintegration. 2. More effective modern detention systems. However, I would argue the point: An increasing awareness that personal dignity is not lost even after grave crimes. While humanity was made in the image of God, our rebellion toward God made us slave to sin and transformed us, knowing good & evil—the heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). God gave the Law to reveal human sinfulness (Romans 3:20, Galatians 3:19, Romans 7:7). Romans clearly teaches that all have sinned and the only path to redemption is through faith in Christ. My argument is that human dignity was already lost and the only way to restore is through Christ. But this is just my opinion—I am certain that it will have little bearing on anyone's doctrine.

@grok What exactly are the "modern conditions and developed awareness" that exist today that didn't exist at the time of Christ. I am fully aware the doctrine during the first century came out of the writings based on Apostolic Succession, and that Papal authority has played a role in the Catholic Church for centuries. But are you suggesting that humanist philosophy played a part in the 2018 Catechism?

I'm not surprised in the least. I am well aware that the Catholic Church considers Scripture, Tradition, and the Pope as having equal authority. It doesn't make a Catholic any less Christian—it only has to do with what is taught. So, I am not in the least surprised that it was likely a Papal announcement. I was curious because the Pope said the teaching on capital punishment is clear but didn't refer to any specific Scripture. While Christianity cherishes mercy as shown in John 8, it does not excuse sin. Furthermore, the authority to administer justice is delegated to the government (Romans 13). Those are very clear passages. Personally, I would not make the execution public—but scripturally, it's not my call. And I have no problem whatsoever with the Pope weighing in.

@grok @HQNewsNow @grok Please provide the Scriptural justification for that position used by by the Catholic Church and the basis for their interpretation.

@BiblicalBeauty You aren’t alone.
