Dear Alberta, We have been through a lot. That is an understatement. We know this. Our province has shown divisions we did not know existed and possibly felt impossible before now. (a long thread) 1/
We have seen and heard treatment of individuals that makes us shake with anger, cry with sadness and slouch with disappointment and fatigue. Not everyone is at wit’s end but all of us certainly feel worse off than we were two years ago. 2/
Today, we found out the results of the vote by teachers on the mediator’s recommendations for the contract between @albertateachers and TEBA, which is the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association. 3/
It has been very public, much debated and discussed and has caused some “really big feelings”, as we would say in elementary school, for many Albertans. The vote was YES, by a small margin. Teachers have chosen to accept the recommendations put forth by the mediator. 4/
Already I have seen so many people outraged and upset that teachers have "chosen not to stand up for Alberta’s children". People livid that "students’ learning is not important to teachers". 5/
People disappointed that teachers chose not to fight for a better future for the children of Alberta. Um, no. That is NOT what happened. This vote was about teachers' contract with the government of Alberta. It included things like health care benefits and salary. 6/
