I met my daughter Resty Namutamba from Luuka and Mr Jafari Basajjabalaba, the LC 5 Chairman of Bushenyi, both of whom belong to the NRM. I wish to commend them for accepting to withdraw from the race in favor of the NRM flag bearers. This is in line with our NRM principles and it should be promoted because it saves time and it eliminates divisions.
Uganda’s Oil and gas sector has pushed for projects to be about Ugandans and the livelihoods of the communities where development happens. This week UNOC, alongside Government entities and Joint Venture Partners joined Civil Society Organisations & Non-Governmental Organization in a monitoring visit to see project progress firsthand, engage with stakeholders and assess the initiatives supporting affected communities. These project visits provide an opportunity for CSOs/NGOs to check that commitments to supporting local livelihoods and protecting the environment are being met.
President @KagutaMuseveni has returned following his working visit to Kenya, where he joined President William Ruto and other African leaders for the groundbreaking ceremony of the East Africa Oil Refinery in Lamu.
How Oyo missed marrying Rwandan princess in 2024 Much as Oyo’s relative appreciated the beauty of the Rwandan princess, she stopped him from marrying her as his official wife. She told Oyo to find a Mutoro, who would perhaps produce a future king of Toro. Oyo was disheartened when his choice of Rwandan princess was discarded. The Rwandan princess was equally disappointed, to the extent of rejecting Oyo’s consolation offer to have her as his second wife, in case he married a Mutoro as the official wife. Despite the upset, the Rwandan princess remained one of Oyo’s best friends. No wonder, when she received the sad news of Oyo’s death, she locked herself inside a house in Nakawa Division and spent two days weeping. DETAILS 👉👉newvision.co.ug/category/love/… #VisionUpdates

GOV'T TARGETS US$5BN TOURISM RECEIPTS BY 2030 - MUSASIZI Finance Minister @henrymusasizi1 has called for deliberate action to unlock Uganda’s tourism potential and increase the sector’s contribution to the economy. He said Government is targeting US$5 billion in annual tourism receipts by 2030. Musasizi said achieving the target will require not only increasing visitor numbers but also longer tourist stays and attracting high-value visitors, adding that tourism remains a high-priority sector for the country. He made the remarks today while officiating at the 4th Annual Tourism Development Programme Review Conference at Imperial Royale Hotel. The latest Tourism Development Programme Annual Performance Report FY2025/26 shows that Uganda received 1.64 million international tourists in 2025, up from 1.37 million in 2024. Tourism receipts increased by 21.3% to Sh5.83 trillion (US$1.62 billion), driven by higher visitor spending and longer stays. The average length of stay rose from 8.7 nights in 2024 to 8.8 nights in 2025, while average tourist expenditure per trip increased to US$986, up from US$933 in 2024. Musasizi said Government’s role is to create an environment that enables the private sector to invest, expand tourism facilities, improve standards and attract foreign direct investment through partnerships and joint ventures. He called for stronger public-private partnerships to turn tourism opportunities into viable and bankable investments across hotels and conference facilities, eco-tourism, cultural and heritage tourism, faith-based tourism, agro-tourism, sports, wellness, adventure, creative and entertainment tourism. The sector currently directly generates 876,512 jobs, equivalent to 7.5% of Uganda’s total employment, according to the Tourism Satellite Account. Musasizi said Government will continue investing in tourism infrastructure, destination marketing, product development, conservation, specialised skills and digital transformation, while improving the business and investment environment. He also pointed to affordable financing and fiscal incentives for investors, alongside Economic and Commercial Diplomacy to promote Uganda in international markets. The Minister urged stakeholders to deliberately discover, develop, package, market and sustainably manage Uganda’s tourism assets while ensuring that the sector creates jobs, earns foreign exchange and benefits communities. “Tourism is a source of high economic growth, earns the country significant foreign exchange, creates jobs for Ugandans, redistributes income to rural areas, and gives us a compelling reason to protect our nature,” Musasizi said. Susan Nakawuki, the State Minister of Tourism said Government’s efforts in tourism marketing, infrastructure development and product diversification are beginning to yield results, noting the expansion of Uganda’s visibility on international markets, collaboration with Uganda’s missions abroad and local governments. The Minister highlighted the construction of more than 280km of tourism roads, expansion of Entebbe International Airport, development of Kabalega International Airport and commencement of Kidepo International Airport. She also commended efforts to diversify tourism products and protect the country’s cultural and natural heritage. She however called for more investment in tourism infrastructure, stronger marketing and promotion, faster product development and improved skills for people working in the sector.

Our economy 64 years ago was fragile. GDP was low, export earnings were limited, and many of the fundamentals were not where we wanted them to be. Today, the picture is changing. Uganda has made significant progress, and the economy continues to move in the right direction. The journey continues, with more work ahead. #UgandaAt64 #UgAt64

President Kaguta Museveni calls for the protection of older persons and discourages the fragmentation of family wealth.
I officiated at the International Day of the Older Persons at State House Entebbe, where I urged the elderly to modernise and learn to preserve their wealth. Many older people start fragmenting their wealth to distribute it to their children instead of using modern inheritance methods such as shareholding. Our aim as government is to ensure that wealthy older people maintain their wealth, while those who have none are supported to obtain it through available government programmes. Therefore, we shall tailor a PDM programme for the elderly after concluding our financial engagements in the AFCON, which has taken a lot of money. Another issue facing older people is that they are most affected by medical conditions and expenses. It is, therefore, my view that the government should sponsor and recruit a geriatrician in each district to offer free and consistent medical support to the elderly.
I thank President William Ruto for inviting me to Lamu County, for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery. I am happy to see Africa waking up and moving away from the 70-year betrayal of exporting raw materials. Mr Dangote, who started as an importer and has become a national and continental asset, is a good example of the transformation we need.
UEDCL Launches Nationwide Stakeholder Engagement Drive to Improve Power Reliability The Uganda Electricity Distribution @UEDCLTD has launched a nationwide stakeholder engagement drive aimed at addressing concerns over power supply reliability, strengthening collaboration with local leaders and improving service delivery. The engagements kicked off in Kira Municipality, where UEDCL presented ongoing and planned interventions to address network constraints and improve electricity supply reliability in the area. Isaac Katewanga, the Acting Chief Commercial and Operations Services Officer at UEDCL, said the engagements are intended to explain the causes of current supply interruptions, provide updates on ongoing projects, listen to concerns from local leaders and identify opportunities for collaboration. He acknowledged the inconvenience caused by frequent power interruptions, noting that UEDCL is implementing both immediate measures and long-term infrastructure investments to address network constraints and meet growing electricity demand. Among the interventions is the upgrade of the Kawanda Substation transformer, which is expected to address capacity constraints affecting customers in Naalya and Kyaliwajala. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. UEDCL has also commenced splitting the Seeta and Bukerere distribution line to reduce network congestion, improve voltage stability and support faster restoration of power supply. Other immediate measures include deploying additional transformers in heavily loaded areas, replacing strained transformers with higher-capacity units, and promptly replacing damaged electricity poles and conductors. According to Samson Tondo, Head of Engineering Services–Central Region, the interventions are expected to benefit more than 80,000 customers across Kira, Namugongo, Kyaliwajala, Bulindo, Kitukutwe, Nsasa, Nabusugwe, Naalya, Kasangati, Najjera, Kitikifumba, Nakwero, Kijabijjo, Bukerere, Sonde and surrounding areas. Tondo said UEDCL is also working with the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) to support the planned increase in Greater Kampala's transmission capacity from 80MW to 200MW. He further highlighted long-term investments, including the construction of the Magigye, Kigo and Nakasero substations, as well as upgrades to Kireka, Busunju, Kakiri, Mubende, Kanyantogoro, Jinja Industrial, Kabaale and Mbale substations. Power line refurbishment projects are also ongoing in areas including Mityana, Masaka, Kasese and Bushenyi. Upon completion of these interventions, UEDCL expects to achieve a 98% improvement in supply reliability. The company also raised concern over increasing vandalism of electricity infrastructure, which has left communities without power and disrupted essential services. Tondo urged local leaders and the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities on the electricity distribution network to UEDCL and local authorities. Jessica Zziwa, Head of Commercial and Operations Services–Central Region, also cautioned the public against fraudsters who promise to facilitate or speed up new electricity connections. She urged customers to make payments for new connections directly to UEDCL through accredited partner banks and mobile payment platforms, and not to hand cash to individuals claiming they can expedite the process. Suspected fraud can be reported to UEDCL through the whistleblower number 0312330377 or to the nearest Police station. The engagement brought together more than 100 local leaders, including Kampala East Regional Police Commander ASP Justus Tashobya, who commended UEDCL for investing in electricity distribution infrastructure and pledged continued Police support in protecting the network from vandalism. Namugongo Division Mayor Moses Haumba also welcomed the initiative, describing the engagement as an important step towards strengthening collaboration between UEDCL, local leaders and communities.
