The Metro PCS store in #ShawDC has been playing go-go music since the 1990s. Now, the owner says T-Mobile and nearby residents are telling them to turn it off. dcist.com/story/19/04/08…

Why do people choose to move into cities expecting quiet? And the irony that you're also right near HUH so you're hearing ambulances all day & night. The fact that this got up to T-Mobile who contacted the owner, essentially affecting his livelihood...this is so upsetting.

Protest outside Metro PCS over Go-Go music controversy. The store was told recently by @TMobile to shut down staple street music after a neighbor complained to the cell phone company. Now it’s illustrating the flashpoint between growth and gentrification. @fox5dc

This isn't just turning off our music. It is muting a culture and a legacy that newcomers have no connection to. It may seem trivial, but to any student of history, this is what erasure looks like. One song, one street corner at a time. #DontMuteDC

This petition is almost at its goal of 15,000 signatures. A fight between a local store and apartment tenants in Shaw has launched a larger conversation over gentrification & noise/music. #DontMuteDC is now trending. change.org/p/ronald-moten…
