True story: So someone emailed my work email to ask me why all the students on Abbott Elementary are Black and I said because it's set in Philly and they asked where the white students were and I said Philly is 75% BIPOC and majority Black and the public schools are 86% POC and they said, "so why aren't the 14% of white students represented on the show?"
@VABVOX Philly is 37% white. Most of those white households choose to send their kids to private schools or non-public schools. Abbot Elementary reflects the reality of the city’s public schools.
@MorgBGreat @VABVOX Exactly! Even with 14% of white public school kids in Philly, my assumption is that the schools & their communities are heavily segregated, like most major cities in America.
@MorgBGreat @VABVOX Wait only 37%?! They move around my section like they are in the majority
@MorgBGreat @VABVOX It's a combinationof public vs private and with the catchment/ out-of-catchment. There are majority white public schools in the city. I agree that Abbot does a good job representing the reality of the situation for most schools.
@MorgBGreat @VABVOX They’re still using religious schools here in the stadium district my children are some of the only white kids and it’s because there is a Christian school around the corner that every other white kid goes to or Christopher Columbus charter
