I would also say leave, and here is my reasoning. First, he already wants it. He said deep down it is what he wants most. A choice you stay in because of guilt tends to turn into resentment later. Second, the business needs capital, and he has none. Staying would mean running a business that needs money while living under a mother who controls the rents. That is a hard place to start from. Third, his brother has shown the path works. He moved, did well, and even finished six more shops on the father's building. Leaving did not mean abandoning the family. Fourth, the admission and his brother's support are a rare package. A funded master's and a family member already there is not an offer that comes twice. Fifth, the property is not going anywhere. If he builds his own life first, he can come back to the business later from a position of strength, with money and options. Sometimes the best way to honour a father's work is to become strong enough to protect it.

The outrage some Muslims, particularly some women, direct at polygamy is seldom about justice or the protection of rights. It is more often rooted in personal pain and the belief that another woman should not enter a marriage where one has already “suffered”. That position is emotional, not principled. It treats the second wife as someone who is harvesting where she did not sow, rather than as a woman entering a relationship that Islam expressly permits. What makes this position even weaker is the nature of the attack itself. A woman who simply indicates interest in a man is subjected to relentless insults and character assassination. This happens even when the man in question has openly shown love, care, and generosity toward his existing wife through gifts and public affection. Instead of that conduct being recognised as evidence of a man who values his household, it is twisted into a reason to destroy the woman who has expressed interest. The outrage is incessant, personal, and disproportionate. It is especially shameful when it comes from Muslims, who are expected to distinguish between what the Shariah allows and what personal resentment demands. There is a further inconsistency that is difficult to ignore. Many of those most vocal against polygamy do not actually reject the institution itself. Their real objection is often to polygamy practised by men of limited means. At the same time, some are dating married men or maintaining boyfriend-girlfriend relationships outside marriage, while still presenting themselves as moral critics of those who choose to formalise their unions lawfully. Those who should be speaking on this subject are the ones who themselves remain within the lines. You cannot step outside the limits of Shariah in your own relationships and then claim the authority to condemn a woman for seeking a lawful marriage. That is double standard and hypocrisy!

A combination of ignorance and poverty is indeed a lethal combination. We see its manifestation every day in our societies. Our people need ethical reorientation. Education with purpose is the only way out of darkness.

Yours contains a different set. The responsibility is to treat their experience as information rather than instruction, and to keep testing, inside your own relationship, what actually sustains honesty, respect, and workable daily life. What failed for them may still fail for you. It may also succeed. The only reliable way to know is to pay attention to the specific people involved rather than to the generalized lesson extracted from someone else’s ending.
