Woman Shoots Masked Intruder… Then Learns Who It Was A woman in Philadelphia heard glass breaking at 5 a.m. Then she found a masked man inside her apartment. Police say he used the fire escape, broke a window, reached inside, unlocked the rear door, and got in. She did not know it was allegedly someone she had a prior relationship with. She did not get a relationship history. She got glass breaking in the dark. A ski mask. A man inside her home. So she fired. Then they took the mask off. And police say she recognized him. A police source reportedly said it was her ex-boyfriend, but even if that detail holds up, it does not weaken the point. It makes the point. Because the people most likely to come through a woman’s window are often people she knows. That is exactly why “someone you know” is a terrible reason for her to be unarmed. Be honest: If a masked person breaks into your home at 5 a.m., how long are you supposed to wait before defending yourself?
