When Rita Moreno appeared as a guest on The Muppet Show in 1976, she created one of the greatest musical comedy sketches in television history. Attempting to perform the classic jazz piece "Fever" with charm and elegance, she faced her arch-nemesis: Animal the drummer. What made this act a timeless masterpiece was Moreno's exceptional comedic talent. Instead of being genuinely overshadowed, she used every annoyed glance, every calculated silence, and every explosive reaction to perfectly counter Animal's chaotic drumming. Nearly 50 years later, this iconic confrontation remains a classic example of how a talented artist can transform high-level music into pure, unadulterated comedy. 👑😂

The sheriff jabbed her in the neck with his club while she queued to register to vote. She was fifty-four years old. She turned round and punched him so hard he went down. Three deputies put her on the ground. Annie Lee Cooper. She had tried to register before. She had already been sacked from her job at a nursing home for trying. On that morning in January 1965 about a hundred and fifty people were queuing outside the Dallas County courthouse in Selma. Sheriff Jim Clark was working the line as he always did, moving people on. He pushed her. She told him he should not have done that. He jabbed her with the billy club. And she hit him. Properly. He went to the pavement. The photograph of her being held down by three men while Clark stood over her with his club raised ran nationally and is one of the images that moved Selma onto the front pages in the weeks before the bridge. She was jailed for eleven hours. She lived in Selma for another fifty years, voted in every election she could, and in 2008 stood in line again, at ninety-six, to vote for a Black president. She said she would have waited all day. She died in 2010 at ninety-nine. Fifty-four years old, in a queue, with a club in her neck. And she swung.

Breaking News!!! There’s actually a line for women’s restroom at @rushtheband show in Houston.

The man who invented the operation that saves babies born with blue-baby syndrome had no medical degree, no college degree, and was listed on the payroll as a JANITOR. He guided the first operation from a stool behind the surgeon's shoulder, telling him where to cut. Vivien Thomas. He had been saving to study medicine when the 1929 crash wiped out his savings and the bank holding them. He took a job as a lab assistant at Vanderbilt for a janitor's wage, because that was the classification available. Within a couple of years he was running experimental surgery — developing techniques, performing operations on his own, training surgeons. He moved to Johns Hopkins with Alfred Blalock in 1941, where he was still paid as a janitor and had to enter through a back door. He was the only Black man in that building not carrying a mop. He worked out the surgical fix for tetralogy of Fallot — the condition killing infants who turned blue and died — and built the instruments for it. The first operation on a child was in 1944. Blalock, who had never done the procedure, asked Thomas to stand behind him and talk him through it. The surgeons on the paper became world famous. Thomas was not credited. Hopkins hung his portrait in 1971 and gave him an honorary doctorate in 1976. Generations of surgeons he personally trained insisted on it. He was paid as a cleaner while inventing heart surgery.

So everybody is stealing my Laurie Anderson video from the Return of the Buffalo event. They put it on Tiktoc and I don't know how to see it. Anyway it's a damned beautiful message.

Tried to respond to someone on here and X wont even allow me to do that 🙄 Wild. This used to be a fun, semi-useful app. In any case, to the folks saying I only post about this sort of stuff now: no shit, haha. I used to post about a lot of things, back when this app was more human. I really enjoyed it at one point and was active on it, but I deleted it ages ago when it went to shit. Now I only use it occasionally to address exploitation of Dad as it’s a readily accessible public forum for me to debunk things and try to protect him, futile though that may be. He protected me for years, I’ve gotta at least try and return the favor. But for the record, I’m 37. Believe me, no one needs my old ass on this app as anything other than an occasional ghostly reminder about the digital exploitation of humans going badly, in real life or fiction. Toodles!

@MzSgtPepper Is there a third option of “rest mode”? Get some teachers and accountants to hold the wheel and keep the country between the lines while we quietly heal a bit?

@MzSgtPepper @WilliamShatner I don’t want to be that guy, but the band is his new band “The *uckers”.

That supposedly ‘private video’ of dad that I’ve been shown talking about conspiracies is clearly AI, and not even particularly convincing AI. Anyone who claims to be a fan who believes it clearly listened to his movies on mute because that voice is robotic and terrible. That said, a human made a robot create it, and to you I say: leave him out of your delusional bullshit and let him rest. If you cannot make your case without making a dead man make it more convincing for you, then tell me: who’s the one manipulating the public thru media now? I hate this cesspool of an app. It’s mostly bots and people willingly being duped by bots at this point so not sure why I feel the need to come back to clarify, but I love him, so I will. Just because he’s gone does not mean he’s now your puppet. Have some shame.

@LeekDuck Each new step tells me 10 years may have to be enough. It’s a shame. I’ve very much enjoyed this game.

Meta’s “you should love AI” ad fails to comfort spectacularly.

I remember looking at my window at the twin towers on September 11th. And then they weren’t there. So much pride in being a New Yorker and so much pride in being an American. We all had something in common,,, we were ALL Americans. May we never forget the lives that were lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, or the families and friends who have carried that loss every day since. Never Forget.
