Oh wow, so when the headteacher told the court that the Imam had agreed with her (that students could miss their Dhuhr prayer and make up for it) as an argument against students' lawful exercise of religious freedom... that was what's known in the islamophobia biz as... a lie?

@LuxMea Kids 'can go across the road' *Screams in safeguarding and the teacher time commitment involved in organising that because YOU CAN'T JUST LET KIDS WANDER OFF SITE UNSUPERVISED, EVEN JUST ACROSS THE ROAD*
@LuxMea Just... have an empty classroom? I get her point that she makes no allowances for ANY religions, that IS indeed a form of equity, but it's not necessarily a GOOD form of equity?
@MsCBristow No it isn’t because equality / equity isn’t just an empty signifier it’s something that has a long fought for definition in law (ie the equality act) that stops this point about “all religions treated equally badly” from being weaponised against Muslim students specifically.
@MsCBristow Presumptions of secularity are not equitable and they are often islamophobic specifially (I know you know this but have seen the argument being made by people who don’t so need to point out!!)
@MsCBristow Obv the equality act should not be the sum total of the struggle for justice, but it at least puts us somewhere beyond “it’s fair to treat everyone identically according to post-christian secular norms”, which sees to be resurging as an islamophobic talking point atm…
@LuxMea Don't worry I'm being sarcastic, using equity in the sense of "everyone is treated the same" to illustrate that that's not actually how one creates "equality" (everyone is treated well). I don't actually think being crap to everyone is a good strategy!
@LuxMea I've always hated 'i treat everyone the same therefore I'm being fair' No. If you treat everyone the same I'm positive you are NOT being fair. Please read Brave New World or other dystopian fiction of your choice.
