Early Readers were focused on making an “Animal Breakfast” students paired beginning sounds of the food choices given to the animals ex “egg is an elephants breakfast” they both have the same beginning sound. Phonemic Awareness building strategies.

My student is practicing CVC words and segmenting sounds. She is also writing the letters she hears in the word. She is pushing tiles in elkonin box and making the sounds she hear in the word. Used well with real words and nonsense words.

Sound Wall! Creating a sound wall in your classroom is so supportive for student to keep learning directly on phonemes and placing words under it like a Word Wall. I would place a mirror by the board to allow students to practice and make connections!Teach sound wall as a class.

supporting grade 1 students with phonological awareness skills with the use of syllables. We played a syllable game where students identified 1-5 syllables in a word. They learned to clap/hand under chin method. This is a great visual game with images.

When beginning to read we focus on vowels short/long sounds. This helps build their phonological awareness skills. This student in grd 1 is categorizing short/long Vsounds. I paired a mirror with this task so the student can see herself making the sounds using sound wall cards.

In FDK We added a digraph today. Students worked on CH and SH and now we are adding TH. We paired this activity with images. Students are to place correct image in the correct plate when they hear the beginning and ending sound in the word.

We used a popit to segment words and write out the sounds to generate a word. We also used a popit to segment and read cvc words. When reading the word the student would choose the correct image to pair with the word.

Using Flyleaf Decodables to work on short a sound and CVC words. Students were prepped prior to this where they can now identify their letters and sounds with the use of sound wall. We are working on blending words with using elkonin boxes. We used letter tiles to write out words

Digraph beginning and ending sounds!FDK focused on CH/SH sounds. They used visuals cards and a mirror that acts as a tool to show them making the sound like the sound wall cards. They said the word of the picture to the mirror and placed the picture in the correct baggy.

During BHM we focused on a book reflective of Black History Inventors. FDK students created their own inventions that helps people/communities. We are in the process of creating these designs using hands on materials.

Read and Draw! A new component to my higher level grade 1 reader. He is focused on Reading comprehension strategies. We worked on short paragraphs and completed a drawing based on text-evidence. He learned to underline important components in the text.

Secret word CVC! Using visuals as beginning sounds to generate a word. Understanding that CVC has the component of a short vowel sound! Then we made our own sentences. Grade 1

R-controlled vowels can be tricky! We used word chaining and elkonin boxes to support the sound of OR today. We then categorized images into correct R controlled sound. We focus on two each time AR and OR / ER and UR.
