@MattMiller2000 @Amomma4207 The Homeschooling page looks great! I’d recommend adding links to @HSLDA as it has a long history of defending homeschool rights and freedoms. They also have a list of state and regional homeschool groups to connect to something more local and area specific.

@khyatisa @kristinsong3 Studies indicate the social interactions that homeschool students get are typically better & higher quality than their public-school peers: readlion.com/2022/08/17/new… Less bullying, etc. As a homeschool grad now homeschooling my own kiddos, I experienced this firsthand.

I got tired saying “no” all the time to my kiddos’ toy requests, so now we have an arrangement where they save up their weekly allowance to buy any and all toys they want. Now they get the toys they want with their own money…the old-fashioned way! 😅

@NotAskedOrGiven So sorry you’re going through this! In my experience, this is definitely not normal. The co-op I go to has clearly defined expectations for student behavior, and problematic behavior gets reported directly to the parent (who must have agreed to the expectations beforehand).

@nomandateFJB @boredjew Hello! We use a homeschool program called My Father’s World: mfwbooks.com It’s Christian but I know some secular families who use it and skip the faith-based parts. There are so many great homeschool programs out there, but it helps to check them out first…

@virtue_essence E.g. my mother loves drawing, but I couldn’t draw to save my life. 😂 But I loved music, and my mother (who doesn’t like playing music) enrolled me in a music program. I had way more time as a homeschooler to pursue my music passion that I’d ever have in a public school setting.

@virtue_essence As a homeschool alumna, I just want to encourage you! Transferring our passions to another human being isn’t part of our calling as parents. Our children are different to us and have unique passions/skills. Homeschooling frees them to pursue new things as independent learners.
