What wonderful post.
If we don't know the stories of these extraordinary ordinary women, how can we know ourselves?
Thank you Karen Minihan. Can't wait to read this.
And look at the excellent packaging. Keep an eye on Irishwoman's Diary @irishexaminer for more.
We got our tickets! But, alas, we are just crazy busy and have decided not to head over to London for the awards but!
We’re going to be watching the live feed, and have a bit of craic on the night!
Wish us luck! #nibbies#indiebookstore#bitingnails#bookawards

@FinnClodagh Fantastic photo - any info on who took the photo? As an historian of Irish dress I love the difference between the fashionable women and the #shawlies. Am sure if some of those shawls survived they'd be museum pieces for sure!😊

Fantastic to see Maureen O'Carroll celebrated here. When asked if she thought women could be as good as men, she said that showed a lack of ambition. Little wonder her son comedian Brendan, was inspired by her.
She features in Her Keys 👇

Born #Onthisday 1913 in #Dublin Politician & Mother, the wonderful Maureen O'Carroll who became Labour's chief whip, the 1st woman to hold that position in any Irish political party & was involved too in having the status of illegitimacy removed from birth certs @FinnClodagh
I was in a chat earlier when someone mentioned the women of 98 were not remembered or memorialised- attached is two excellent books covering many of the wife`s behind the leading male figures. Helena Walsh Concannon did an excellent job in 1919 (Maghera`s Own).
