Post yourselves on suit. Let's see what you're rocking.
Your budget should account for your worst habits. If you love ordering food, don't pretend you'll suddenly stop. Create a food-delivery/social envelope. A realistic budget beats an imaginary one.
When an envelope is always empty early, investigate. Don't simply increase it. Ask: Why am I spending more than planned? The answer might reveal a habit you didn't notice.
You just described what we’re building at SplittBot. Income comes in - SplittBot automatically allocates it across your chosen buckets - you know exactly what’s available to spend, save, and withdraw. We’re building this for everyday Nigerians
Imagine being able to deposit and lock in a lump sum, set a fixed amount, choose a specific bank account, and have the money automatically disbursed weekly or monthly. Basically, an automated allowance system. Deposit once, set your schedule, and let the app handle the rest. It
@blessIngIdowuj @OPay_NG @OPaySupport This is what we're building at @useSplittBot
This is exactly what we’re building at SplittBot. Give SplittBot your income, and SplittBot automatically splits it into the buckets that matter to you; food, transport, data, savings, flex and more. You shouldn’t have to manually figure out where every naira should go.
@usexara_ai I was just about to come ask for this feature but found out that you have done something close. Love it. Now I have a few feature requests. If I get a particular amount as income (fixed or not), I want to be able to tell xara to automatically assign a particular percentage of
There are two ways to fix overspending: Earn more. Or control where your current money goes. Ideally, do both. But don't wait for a bigger income before learning money management.
When an envelope consistently has money left over, don't automatically spend it. Ask: “Can this surplus help another goal?” Unused money can become savings, reserve or funding for a future expense.
Don't increase your lifestyle immediately after every income increase. If your income rises by 50k, don't automatically create 50k of new expenses. Give part of the increase a new job: Savings.
Your future self is also a person you need to budget for. Today's you wants the shoes. Future you wants savings. Give both a place in the budget.
Try the 24-hour rule. Want something non-essential? Wait 24 hours before buying it. If you still want it and your Flex envelope can afford it, then consider buying it.
A budget shouldn't make you feel poor. It should make your money predictable. Knowing you have 8k available for enjoyment is better than having 30k in your account and wondering whether you can afford anything.
If you constantly touch your savings, ask why. Maybe: Your Flex budget is too small. Your Needs budget is too small. Or your savings goal isn't specific enough. Don't only blame yourself. Fix the system.
Don't save only when you “feel financially comfortable.” Saving is a habit. Even a small amount consistently can be more useful than waiting for the perfect month.
Savings needs protection. If you can move money from savings into spending every time you want something, your savings isn't really protected. Make accessing it harder.
Budgeting gets easier when you stop asking: “How much money do I have?” and start asking: “How much money is available for this?” That's the envelope mindset.
Try a weekly money meeting with yourself. 10 minutes. Check: What came in? What went out? Which envelope is low? What needs adjusting? Ten minutes can save you hours of financial stress.
