I spoke with @Bloomberg about my candidacy for UN Secretary-General and my belief that the office must be an active force for diplomacy and peace: • “The Secretary-General has to be an actor rather than a spectator to the world’s crises.” That means keeping dialogue open, taking risks for peace and responding to crises with greater urgency. I also stressed that the Secretary-General and the Organization must be less risk-averse and willing to take political risks to achieve peace. • I reaffirmed my commitment to independence: “I would govern with only a commitment to the UN and its Charter.” • Asked about Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s tweet, I made clear that “I commit to engaging with Iran, like all Member States, to advance peace and stability.” • Asked about Sudan, I stressed the scale of the crisis: “Sudan is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.” I underscored the famine conditions and the immense strain on neighbouring countries hosting refugees. I also reaffirmed my commitment: “I would put the UN’s full political and practical support behind ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and a credible and inclusive political process that reflects the democratic aspirations of the Sudanese people.”
Correction: United Arab Emirates Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh, who is vying to become secretary general of the United Nations, pledged to be fully independent and continue dialogue if elected to the top position at the organization bloom.bg/4i4HBjZ

I am standing to be Secretary-General because I believe this is a moment to act with greater urgency: to act earlier, bring people together across difference, and drive the work forward until it produces concrete results. That is how we rebuild trust in the United Nations and ensure it delivers meaningful change for the people it exists to serve. My vision: lananusseibeh.org

To all those who call the UAE home and guests in our beloved nation. The UAE places its security and the protection of all citizens, residents, and visitors at the very top of its priorities. With God’s grace, the UAE is fully prepared to confront these threats. I extend my deepest appreciation to our brave armed forces, our committed security services, and all national institutions and teams working tirelessly to keep our country safe. They represent the highest standards of readiness and cooperation. We are truly proud of them. I would also like to underscore my sincere gratitude for the awareness shown by our community of Emiratis and our resident brothers and sisters, partners in this nation, who have expressed their genuine love and loyalty to the UAE through both words and actions. In the UAE, everyone is Emirati through their love for this land and their contributions to it. May God have mercy on the victims and grant the injured a speedy recovery. With God’s blessing, the UAE—the land of Zayed—will remain strong in its unity, steadfast in defending its sovereignty, and steadily advancing towards the future.
