Firefighters are currently in attendance at an incident involving a gas leak on Gortin Road, Omagh, Tyrone. The initial call was received at 9.35am today (Wednesday 14 October 2026).

The Royal College of Nursing has opened a ballot for industrial action and strike action among nursing staff employed in Northern Ireland. The RCN said the move followed the “continued failure to deliver a pay award for staff."

The Gortin Road in Omagh is currently closed at the junction of Killybrack Road due to a gas leak in the area. A number of homes and businesses are being evacuated and the public are advised to avoid the area at this time.

@Pp2Nic @AodhanRob If following the rule of law, then there wont be anything to hide or be used against them. 😉

"If you want to get out of here safe and sound, no filming." Those were the words I was met with while filming a protest in Derry’s Waterside this evening. I was told not to film because they said the protest was peaceful. When I asked whether they wanted to get their message out there, the response was "shut your mouth". I then approached one person who had been shouting at me and asked if I had done something wrong. I was told no, but then immediately told to "f**k off". There was also a warning that if they were "over in my end of the woods", it would be a different story - not sure what this means. I was told they did not want me there and that I had no right to stand in the street. I do not know who these people were, but they were standing, watching over the protest. Their message, however, was clear: journalists are not welcome. I will not be intimidated, threatened or deterred from carrying out my work. I stand firmly by the principle that the press must be free to report without fear, favour or intimidation. I will continue to do my job. I will not be silenced, and I will not be intimidated out of doing the work the public has a right to see. @NUJofficial

‼️Garvaghy Road residents lose latest legal case against the Parades Commission’s decision to allow the march. 👨‍⚖️The Court of Appeal dismissed the challenge this afternoon, with Lady Chief Justice Dane Siobhan Keegan saying the application has “no reasonable prospect of success”. 📣It was made clear that the decision was confined to its lawfulness - not whether or not the march should occur. 🗣️Our reporter Emily Brown was outside court, where Breandán Mac Cionnaith called the judgment “academic”, but said “we’ll be back again to prevent future marches”.

The first minister Michelle O'Neill, and three other Sinn Féin ministers, will face a no-confidence vote at Stormont this evening over the Drumcree parading dispute. Read the full story here - bbc.in/4hWdDgQ

Today, Sinn Féin Councillor for the Garvaghy Road, Paul Duffy, arrived at his workplace to find his name and target signs spray-painted. When Jim Allister talks about “sanitising” the Garvaghy Road, and the DUP describes the community as a “mob”, they must recognise the dangers of such language. This language dehumanises the community and creates a climate where intimidation and violence can take hold. This language must stop now. There can be no going back to the past.

Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition spokesman Breandan MacCionnaith said a judgment against their challenging the Parades Commission decision at the Court of Appeal today is academic given the march was banned by the Secretary of State
