A group of Native American tribes are suing to stop the nation’s largest planned lithium mine because they consider the land sacred. Proponents of the mine say its vital for electric vehicle production. Now, a federal judge must issue a ruling. n.pr/3GJeno2
@NPR Can someone tell manufacturers that if it’s sacred then then it’s not viable
@NPR Disband all reservations and ignore them.
@NPR If the tribes say no, them it’s no!! The American Indians have been getting screwed over by the government, since the first settlers. A Federal judge should not be deciding this. This is Indian land!!
@NPR 🧵 “Clean” is a misnomer. It’s important we deal in realities. Mining is guaranteed to have a ➖impact on the🌏. This mine would provide <2% of the lithium 🇺🇸 need. The location being discussed is NOT tribe land Tribes would deal w/the industry pollution earthworks.org/issues/mining/
@NPR Ok, just keep the blood mines going in the Congo then. Out of sight, out of mind!
@NPR I am not sure any country can function if one can not mine minerals. we do need the lithium or we depend on other countries.
@NPR Nothing is sacred, that's largely an excuse for a legal argument. We've got to let go of many of our older beliefs which are likely false anyway and learn and grow beyond those limitations.
@NPR This is a tuff decision because I think we need to bring this industry home for the security of our country but I also think there are some more important issues and we should take a lesson on being caretakers of our land also. My vote would be to look elsewhere.
@NPR There should be no special consideration for Native tribes. They should be treated the same as the Confederacy.
