Disappointingly, I did not experience any improvements in my symptoms (energy levels or orthostatic intolerance) after drinking the ORS. My heart rate actually increased on the 2nd Lean test, which may be due to PEM from the first Lean test or due to the fluids.
But, there was a difference in my pulse pressure (PP). As is typical in ME/CFS my PP dropped by 1min of standing, and whilst stood it was clinically low (below 25% of systolic, indicated by the red asterisks). But, my supine PP was actually healthy after the ORS!
I've been measuring my PP for months and have never seen it look so healthy as it did after the ORS. Low PP on standing is seen in POTS and ME as a symptom of autonomic dysfunction (it's also indicative of poor cardiac function & seen in heart failure). …nslational-medicine.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
I don't know if drinking 1 litre of these WHO formula ORS on a more regular basis could help me in the long term by improving my resting pulse pressure (I will ask a cardiologist) but it is interesting.
I suspect the reason I didn't feel a symptom benefit from the ORS is that I have hyperadrenergic POTS or perhaps I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia and not POTS at all, who knows (hopefully my cardiologists will figure this out!).
@Naomi_D_Harvey Really interesting. I had a month course of IV saline once a week and had no benefits at all! I know it helps other people a lot. So frustrating.
@debbie_seymour Oh how frustrating!!
@Naomi_D_Harvey Yes. I assumed I’d be able to walk out of the hospital but it just felt like nothing had happened to all.
@debbie_seymour That exactly how I feel when I try the salts and fluids. Well done for trying it though, it’s usually helpful so was worth a go x
@Naomi_D_Harvey I do the salts and fluids every day. Same nothing ☹️
@debbie_seymour I do the fluids but gave up the salts as soon as I saw they don’t help. But I may try this again and see if it does anything on repeat use (without the lean tests to tide me out!)
