Marcis Ponder played his first game in a Florida State jersey and took 21 rebounds off Auburn. 12 of them on the offensive glass. Then Charles Barkley walked over to talk to him. Here is the whole thing. It was an exhibition. The stats do not count and nobody is putting them in a record book. Here is why it matters anyway. The game was at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama. The event is called Ballin in Boutwell and this was the third one. Charles Barkley grew up in Leeds, 17 miles down the road. He went to Auburn. And at Auburn he did exactly one thing better than anybody in the league. He took the ball off the glass. Barkley played CENTER there. He is listed at 6 foot 6, and in his own book he says he is 6 foot 4. He led the SEC in rebounding three years in a row. Every year he was on campus. They called him the Round Mound of Rebound. And almost nobody wanted him out of high school. An Auburn assistant happened to be sitting at the state semifinal and watched him put 26 points on Bobby Lee Hurt, the most recruited player in Alabama. That is the only reason Auburn ever found him. He left as SEC Player of the Year, he still holds the school record for field goal percentage at 62.6%, and they retired his number. Now here is the kid. Marcis Ponder is from Miami. He left to play at a prep school in Orlando, then another one in Virginia. He was a four star recruit, the fourth ranked center in his class, and the Defensive Player of the Year on the Grind Session circuit. He is listed at 7 foot, 285 pounds. When he signed he was listed at 6 foot 11 and 330. He turned up to summer workouts at 309, and the staff asked him for 285. He is 285. His head coach Luke Loucks went on Pardon My Take and explained what happened the first day Ponder got on campus. "He broke our hoop on Day One." And then this. "We've gotta teach you how to dunk." Loucks called him an animal. Here is the line. 13 points. 21 rebounds. 3 blocks. 25 minutes. In the first half alone he had 15 rebounds. In 13 minutes. Barkley averaged 14.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a game for his entire college career. Now the honest part. It was a preseason game against a team still sorting out its rotation, and one night from a freshman is one night. Florida State won 82-71 and it counts for nothing. But a 7 foot kid from Miami took 21 boards off Auburn, 17 miles from the town Charles Barkley grew up in. And the Round Mound of Rebound came over to say something to him.

It’s time for a new replay procedure. Given the amount of deference that is given to the on-field call and the standard of indisputable evidence to overturn, we need to have an option for refs to no call and go straight to replay if they truly were not able to see what happened

@Cover3Podcast I feel like for the rest of the season, Colorado State should do a raffle for the fans to call the defensive plays if they donate to the NIL or booster club. The fact that the 1st half of that game almost covered the full game total by halftime is wild!

One of the most underrated transfers that I highlighted is Kameron Taylor headed to FSU. One of 4 underclassmen to have a 15+ assist%, 15 dunks & 35 threes last year (joining AJ Dybantsa, Tyler Tanner & Cam Boozer) Wildly talented wing for @FSUHoops
