As a Muslim woman my critiques are often met with the racist rejoinder, “You’re lucky you live in America where you are allowed to speak.” Now watch a major university silence a Muslim valedictorian in a hijab with no sense of irony.
@NaziaKaziTweets Is it racist to silence a Christian? Then it’s not racist to silence a Muslim.
@NaziaKaziTweets Aren't many Muslim women not allowed to go to school in their home countries?
Oh jeez, get a clue. They’re not silencing her. She has no constitutional right to a speaking slot at Graduation to a captive audience forced to listen to her. It’s everyone’s graduation and nobody wants a divisive political screed from a woman whose twitter feed is filled with intolerance and bigotry. She can speak anywhere and anytime she wants, just not to a captive audience at a University event for everyone.
@NaziaKaziTweets She's (at least for now) not speaking at graduation, but she certainly hasn't been silenced, indeed she sent out a widely circulated protest statement. Last I heard, she hasn't been arrested or beaten for this defiance of authority.
@NaziaKaziTweets You are so silenced that your tweet complaining about silencing has 57,000 plus views and counting...
I feel lucky to be born & raised in this gorgeous country! To recognize this in my own life or bring attention to it is not racist. When hospitality is extended to someone such as yourself, show some appreciation or leave. To accept the bounty and refuse any semblance of gratitude could easily be perceived as the racist perspective you toss at others so thoughtlessly.
@NaziaKaziTweets hate isn't welcome regardless of who the speaker is. for shame
@NaziaKaziTweets Ok, maybe she should go to university in an Arab country. Oh wait, you can’t select “female” on the application? Odd.
@NaziaKaziTweets You have freedom of expression till the time your views align with the state's narrative. What an irony!
