Fire in Neutron Tower, London E14, early this morning. The building suffered a severe flood emanating from the roof yesterday. Neither of the two fire alarm systems activated. Residents learnt of the fire via a WhatsApp group and door knocking.

@Brendan80704486 @SimonCalder Very true. My passport card stays securely in my wallet, which I habitually look after with the same care whether I’m travelling internationally or not. In contrast, a passport booklet is too large to carry in one’s habitual everyday secure place such as a wallet or purse.

@SimonCalder The solution in your final paragraph is spot-on. Airlines are fined thousands for allowing an incorrectly documented passenger to travel, but have to pay only hundreds in compensation for denying boarding to a correctly-documented passenger. This imbalance needs to be removed.

@gotravelyourway Buses between the gate and the aircraft. I booked a flight, not a bus. One way to eradicate this industry laziness would be a regulatory requirement for seats for all passengers on each bus, making airport buses uneconomical to operate.

@eurofounder The restaurants are at fault: 1. They exclude labour costs from menu prices, thereby causing a misleading indication of price; and 2. They fail to remunerate their staff sufficiently. These failures create no onus on diners to pay more than the contractually-due amount.

@SimonJWoodUK Section 230(2)(b) of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires an invitation to purchase (such as a restaurant menu) to indicate the total price of each product. The total price should include any foisted 12.5% labour charge.

@SimonJWoodUK These additional percentages are not genuinely optional or discretionary, because they are foisted without diners' express consent and many diners lack confidence to ask for them to be removed. Within Europe, this malpractice is unique to the UK and ought to be outlawed.

@sgfurlong @FlySWISS @dfatirl This screenshot of @IATA's Timatic system (which @FlySWISS ought to have checked) is from a denial of boarding with my passport card in Vilnius to @LondonCityAir. I was almost denied boarding again until I expressed excitement about doubling my compensation from €400 to €800.
