Today I delivered an official apology, on behalf of the Government of BC, to the Sons of Freedom Doukhobor survivors and families. We cannot take away the hurt and trauma, but hope this is a step towards healing.
We are offering a long overdue apology from BC and supports for the community. Thank you to all who have shared their stories today, they will not be forgotten.
"I am driven to tears to think about the horrors experienced by the children of your community...Any parent knows there is no greater love than a parent's love for their child. The children were torn from the loving arms of their parents, and forced to see them through chain link fences only...it was wrong and should not have happened." Yet it is happening still. mostly by mothers against the father of their child, but sometimes the reverse. When it is done for financial gain it cannot be said to be in the child's best interest. What is being done to protect our most vulnerable?
@NikiSharma2 @katiederosayyj @rr4mla @BrittnyAnderso i caught wind of this on cbc radio this morning. 👍
