@thesandb editors-in-chief were informed by their supervisor that @GrinnellCollege would stop funding print newspapers. They were allegedly told not to contact other GC leadership. I went to fact-check the details, and was told it was all untrue. 🧵 thesandb.com/47022/article/…
The night our paper went to print, I tried to fact-check details about next year's budget for student publications at @GrinnellCollege. I first contacted Ashley Adams, S&B's direct supervisor, who had told students at multiple publications that print would no longer be funded.
@GrinnellCollege Adams re-directed me to Ellen de Graffenreid, the College's communications director. When I called De Graffenreid, she told me what Adams said was untrue. De Graffenreid called it "a major miscommunication."
@GrinnellCollege Student leaders at six student publications had been told in March and April by Adams the College might stop funding their publications next year. The S&B had already spent much of their budget producing a special edition urging action to save the newspaper.
@GrinnellCollege How could such a grave miscommunication happen? Major question remain unanswered. I am working on a follow-up story. Feel free to contact me with any information. #studentjournalism
