Candidate: “My salary expectation is negotiable.” Recruiter: “Okay, what range are you considering?” Candidate: “Anything the company offers.” Please do not do this 😭 Even when you are flexible, have a range.
“Just resign” is easy advice to give when you are not the one with bills to pay. But how bad does a workplace have to get before quitting without another job lined up becomes the better option? I am curious to hear from people who have actually done it.

@EmmaAnu239762 I read this whole thread twice. As an HR person, abeg I need to hear the other side because ₦850k to ₦1.55m + equity and “still finalising” while someone had already resumed is a lot to process 😭
One thing my first HR job taught me: fear can be mistaken for respect. My boss was involved in everything. Once we heard he was coming, everyone became tense 😂. Even asking for clarity could get you shouted at. That shaped the kind of leader I never wanted to become.
One interview mistake I see more often than people realise: The candidate gives a 5-minute answer to a question that needed 40 seconds. A good answer does not have to be a long answer.
I actually like candidates who interview me back. Ask about the team, why the role is open, what success looks like and even what makes people leave. If I am deciding whether I want to hire you, you should also be deciding whether you want to work with us.
@Zaynab_Ojonugwa @AramideOyekunle It was not easy 😂. I learnt to choose my battles, document important conversations and stay professional. One thing I learnt early is that HR cannot change a leader who does not want to change. Protect yourself, learn as much as you can, and know when it is time to move on.
@AweleDavies This is so true. Sometimes we mistake ‘they cannot do without me’ for job security. Meanwhile, the business is already thinking about how not to depend on one person. Being indispensable does not mean you cannot be replaced.
Recruiters, I am curious. Two candidates: A interviews brilliantly but has done about 60% of the job. B has done 90% of the job but struggles to sell it in the interview. You can only push one to the hiring manager. Who are you backing, and why?
