Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali “Healthy Child, Hopeful Future” Children’s Medical Camp at Baby Life Rescue Center- Mombasa On Saturday, July 25th, Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali hosted a children’s medical camp at the orphanage, Baby Life Rescue Center (BLRC). Led by Service Projects Director Samantha Jacobs and OB-GYN/ oncologist Rotarian Dr. Victor Tetty, the medical camp was an overall success. Thirty-one children ranging from 5 days old to 10 years old received medical check-ups and had necessary medications prescribed. WellCare Medical Clinic partnered with RCMN and performed the medical exams. Some of the babies and children are orphaned via abandonment, and a couple of the babies were born to women who are mentally ill and pose a danger to their babies’ safety. Fortunately, BLRC’s Founder, Mr. Peter, and his wife lovingly offer their home to displaced children. Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali was also represented by Dr. Oduor-Odote, Club treasurer Frank Muthaura, Club President Des Rose Roger, Past President Leo Mangagi, Monique Oweya and soon-to-be member Diana Musyoka. All present, including RCMN, WELLCARE Clinic and staff from BLRC, later enjoyed a luncheon and great conversation

ROTARY CLUB OF MOMBASA NYALI SUPPORTING CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CAMP Saturday, 25th July | Baby Life Rescue Centre Theme: “Bringing Hope and Healing” This Saturday, the Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali (RCMN) will stand alongside the Baby Life Rescue Centre (BLRC) to provide a free medical camp for 29 orphaned children in their care. The Centre’s Director shared a sobering reality: “We currently have 29 children. Our youngest is just two weeks old. Most are toddlers, while our school-going children range from 3 to 8 years. Our oldest child is 10 years old and physically challenged.” These children depend on us. Regular medical checkups are not a luxury—they are a lifeline ensuring every child grows healthy, safe, and ready to thrive. Rotary’s global focus on Maternal and Child Health finds its most urgent expression here. By joining hands, we can bring healing where it is most needed. Your support matters. A contribution of Kshs 500/- can make a lasting difference in a child's life. PayBill: 247247 | Account: RCMNF (See poster for details) Together, let’s turn compassion into action. Every child deserves hope. Every child deserves healing.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF MOMBASA NYALI IN Digital Learning Partnership – “Close the Gap (CTG)” SCHOOL COMPUTER PROJECT President Des Rose Roger and Projects Director Samantha Jacobs hit the ground running at the beginning of the Rotary year, meeting with our implementation partner, Mr. Phillip Kairo, for the Pentrose Computer project “Close the Gap” regarding our upcoming pilot Digital Learning Partnership campaign at Pentrose School to “Create a Lasting Impact” in the IT/Education sector. In this meeting, they reviewed the implementation plan together to ensure the success of the pilot project, with a shared vision of replicating the initiative in additional schools and institutions in need. This partnership is an exciting opportunity to expand digital learning for students and build a sustainable model that can be replicated at other schools in our community.

The Blue Economy has many facets. I joined the “Watershed” group to explore further possibilities that can yield economic returns to investors and local communities. The quick touch-and-go journey took us to Watamu, Kilifi and Shimoni. Feeling optimistic. Ram, Ran, Alexis, Ted.

There is baking the cake, and there is sharing it. The two are inseparable stages of any nation’s progress. In Kenya, however, our politicians seem more interested in debating how to slice the cake long before the oven is even preheated. They discuss distribution before production — allocation before creation. Yet, amid this misplaced enthusiasm for sharing what has not been baked we end up missing out on the wider goal of Vision 2030 which is now only 5 years away. I still believe that, one day, our leaders will not only permit but actively cultivate an enabling environment where hardworking Kenyans can roll up their sleeves, light the ovens of enterprise, and bake not just a cake — but a bigger, richer one that everyone can partake in with pride. Please allow us to bake the cake before insisting to eat it. As always I choose to remain an optimist
