"SOCIALISM" for the Nazis denotes the principle of COLLECTIVISM as such and its corollary, STATISM—in every field of human action, including but not limited to economics. "To be a socialist," says Goebbels, "is to submit the I to the thou; socialism is sacrificing the individual to the whole." — Leonard Peikoff, THE OMINOUS PARALLELS @OminousParallel

"The process of spreading a philosophy by means of free discussion among thinking adults is long and complex. From Plato to the present, it has been the dream of social planners to circumvent this process and, instead, to inject a controversial ideology directly into the plastic, unformed minds of children—by means of seizing a country’s educational system and turning it into a vehicle for indoctrination. In this way one may capture an entire generation without intellectual resistance, in a single coup d’école." — Leonard Peikoff, @OminousParallel

THE ROOTS OF NAZISM To this day, Nazism remains vivid in the public mind as the greatest evil in human history, and continues to be the subject or background of countless novels, films, and non-fiction analyses. But the artists and scholars of 2014 still have no real explanation; they are no closer than they were in 1982 to identifying the fundamental roots of Nazism. This book does. Those interested in the roots of Hitler's NATIONAL SOCIALISM should read THE OMINOUS CAUSE OF HITLERS GERMANY by Leonard Peikoff. @CauseHitler

In The Cause of Hitler’s Germany—previously published as part of his 1982 book The Ominous Parallels—Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand’s long-time associate, demonstrates how unreason and collectivism led the seemingly civilized German society to become a Nazi regime.

The Ayn Rand Center Groundbreaking This month, the Ayn Rand Institute celebrated a historic milestone: the groundbreaking of the new Ayn Rand Center in Austin, Texas. @elanjourno and ARI CEO @taltsfany share footage from the ceremony and discuss the vision for this building as a lasting physical home for Rand's ideas.

“Ayn Rand’s philosophy has changed thousands of lives, including my own, & has the power to change the course of history. ... The present book is the first comprehensive statement of her philosophy.”

Have you read Leonard Peikoff's THE OMINOUS PARALLELS: THE END OF FREEDOM IN AMERICA?

"While today’s philosophy departments make it a loud point to proclaim that philosophy has nothing to do with practical life or with reality…—Dr. Peikoff shows to their mangled victims what philosophy is, what it does, and how to recognize its influence all around us." —AYN RAND

…inousparallels.capitalismmagazine.com

In essence, Dr. Peikoff’s answer is that the ultimate cause of Nazism was philosophy. Nazism, he argues, was made possible by a long line of German philosophers who advocated unreason and self-sacrifice. /4

Almost everyone acknowledges that Nazism was one of the greatest horrors of the 20th century, yet few understand its deepest cause. How did a supposedly civilized country— the “land of poets and philosophers”—degenerate into a murderous, totalitarian dictatorship? /1
