@iamjerrybarry The catch: Mac only, and it's not signed by Apple yet, so macOS warns you on first open. The maker says some features have only had short test runs.
Want something more established? Cap is open source with automatic zoom, about 24K GitHub stars: cap.so
Screen Studio is $29 a month. That's $348 a year for screen recordings that zoom in where you click.
Capturra does it on your Mac, open source:
1. Download the .dmg
2. Drag it to Applications
3. Allow screen access
4. Record, tweak zooms, export
Day-old v0.1.0 though 👇
@plahteenlahti All your sites in one dashboard and nobody else peeking at the numbers? That's the self-hosting glow-up 😌 Umami skipping cookies is a nice bonus too, which can mean one less consent banner to babysit.
@OpenDesignHQ Making a concept video for Figma as the open-source Figma Motion alternative is a very confident move and I respect it 😄 Design tools love a monthly plan, so an open option for motion is a welcome sight.
@_A_Radwan_ A model that fits in about 1 GB beating one ~5.7x its size on tool use? My phone is about to get ideas 😄 Worth noting Liquid calls it open-weights, so the license is worth a read before shipping it in anything commercial.
@matchaman11 Paying $199 a month just to make content is how a subscription turns into a roommate 😅 Love seeing an open-source version with no lock-in. Curious what's doing the rendering under the hood?
The catch: it's brand new (first release Oct 20, Mac + Linux since Oct 25), and Windows shows a warning because the installer isn't signed yet.
Notion has a $0 plan, and students get Plus at no cost. No Notion importer is listed (CSV files, yes).
Notion Plus is $12 a month if you pay monthly. That's $144 a year, per person.
Thought Desk is an open-source Notion alternative that runs on your own computer: pages, databases, a calendar and flashcards. Works offline, no account.
Windows, Mac, Linux 👇
@thisiskp_ An AI that learns my life while I sleep and doesn't greet me with a monthly bill in the morning? Strong vibe 😄 Keeping something that personal on-device feels like the right default for notes and messages.
@IAmNickDodson Benchmarking at 8k context is like test-driving a pickup with an empty bed 😄 Long context is where local setups really sweat, since the KV cache eats memory fast. Tokens/sec at 128k next to the scores would be a gift.
@mkliku@radius_browser Finally, screen sharing without the mini heart attack over a stray tab 😅 Doing the redaction with a local model is the right call too, since the sensitive text never has to leave the machine just to get hidden.
@xdadevelopers AirDrop works great right up until the one Android friend shows up 😅 Open-source sharing that works across every device on your own Wi-Fi is such an underrated upgrade. LocalSend is a solid pick if anyone's still shopping.
The catch: TeamViewer still has a personal-use version at no cost, so its paid plans are for work use. RustDesk uses its own public servers by default, or you can run yours.
And never install any remote tool because a stranger on the phone asks. RustDesk says hang up.
TeamViewer Remote Access is $24.90 a month, billed yearly. That's $298.80 up front.
RustDesk is the open tool that replaces it: see and control another computer from anywhere. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android.
Open source, 127K GitHub stars.
