All media who are attending the area, please keep a distance and stay out of police operations for your safety. Anyone found within areas undergoing enforcement may be subject to arrest. There will be a media availability later today at 474 Elgin Street. #ottnews
@OttawaPolice Relax, people on this thread. Police aren't telling media not to film, just to keep their distance. Liability statement. Lawyers recommend it to avoid lawsuits. Getting in the way can bungle arrests in progress. If there was obstruction of media, they'd be banned from the area.
@OttawaPolice They pulled this in Russia, China, Germany, Poland, Romania, and other countries. When you try to limit exposure of unapproved people, this communicates you're trying to hide something. It's unethical, and borders police corruption. If there's nothing to hide, anybody can show up
@OttawaPolice Under EA, police have no authority to arrest anyone who “resides, works or is moving through that area for reasons other than to participate in or facilitate the assembly.” The same force that failed to enforce laws for three weeks, now threatens to illegally arrest journalists.
@OttawaPolice Translation: We're going to be doing things, that we're not suppose too. We don't want you filming it, and putting it out there, for the world or Canadians to see.
@OttawaPolice This is wrong, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You take taxpayer money, the least you could do is be held accountable.
@OttawaPolice That’s how we do it here in Zimbabwe
