At major auto shows, manufacturers often unveil concept cars. These vehicles are not built for immediate production. They exist to explore new possibilities, challenge conventions, and advance the craft. At Oxshott Collection, we follow a similar philosophy. Much of our research and development never reaches the marketplace. We invest countless hours working with designers, materials, techniques, and forms, not because a product is ready to sell, but because the pursuit of excellence teaches us how to create something better tomorrow. This process is demanding, time-consuming, and often invisible. Yet it is the engine that drives our growth. Today, we are pleased to share one such project. Introducing the Palermo Photophore in our Diamond Shade (regular size). We believe it is beautiful. We also believe it is not finished. The piece is currently on display in our showroom. However, despite the progress represented here, we have no plans to move it into production. The reason is simple: we are not yet satisfied. While this version captures much of what we envisioned, it still falls short of our ultimate objective. Further refinements are needed. In fact, we may ultimately abandon this approach entirely and pursue a different path. Some would argue that perfection is the enemy of good. Our response is equally simple. As production has become increasingly driven by scale and efficiency, much of the artistry that once defined this category has been lost. We have no interest in creating just another product. Our ambition is greater than that. We want to help revive a forgotten standard of excellence. When the Palermo is finally ready, we do not want it to be merely admired. We want it to make people stop, look again, and recognize that something extraordinary has been achieved. Until then, the work continues. oxshottcollection.com #oxshottcollection; #interiordesign; #interiorarchitecture; #architecturaldetails; #architecturaldesign; #architecturallighting; #luxuryinteriors; #designinspiration; #designerlighting; #luxurylighting; #lightingdesign; #timelessdesign; #classicdesign; #bespokeinteriors; #customlighting; #craftsmanship #oxshottcollection

A river meanders because it is young. A river meanders because it is old. Sometimes from abundance, sometimes from adversity. Yet throughout its wandering, it remains faithful to its destination. And so, after a season of meandering, the Palermo Photophore has arrived. Hand cast, hand engraved, and rendered in brass. oxshottcollection.com/table/candle-s… #decorcrushing #architecteinterieur #myhousebeautiful #currentdesignsituation #designanddecoration #dreamkitchen #homedecor #homedesign #homerenovation #homestyle #hospitalitydesign #interior123 #interior4all #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #interiordesign #interiorinspiration #oldhouselove #oxshottcollection #traditionalstyle #catchingthelight #livingwithantiques #curatedhome

Inspired by History. Crafted with Substance. Inspired by the architectural forms of early twentieth-century Milan and the artistic glass traditions of Murano, this pendant transforms classic influences into a contemporary design statement. The sculptural glass, inspired by Murano's tradition of artistic expression, transforms illumination into an experience, its richly textured surface animating light with layers of brilliance, depth, and movement. Paired with precision-crafted metal details, it creates a captivating balance of history, craftsmanship, and innovation. The Milanese fixtures that inspired this design possessed a remarkable sense of form, but were often executed in pressed sheet metal. Our interpretation retains their architectural elegance while elevating the construction through solid sand-cast brass, painstaking hand engraving, and meticulous finishing. No detail has been overlooked. Even the chain reflects this commitment to craftsmanship; each link is fully formed, welded closed, and polished by hand to achieve a seamless, jewelry-like finish. The result is more than a revival of a classic silhouette; it is a celebration of enduring craftsmanship, where beauty is matched by substance. oxshottcollection.com/lt-485-01c.html #oxshottcollection; #interiordesign; #interiorarchitecture; #architecturaldetails; #architecturaldesign; #architecturallighting; #luxuryinteriors; #designinspiration; #designerlighting; #luxurylighting; #lightingdesign; #timelessdesign; #classicdesign; #bespokeinteriors; #customlighting; #craftsmanship

The subtle lip at the top of each shade serves as a signature design detail, enhancing the sculptural presence of this exceptional work. Carved from one of the world's most treasured ornamental stones, each Registan is a distinctive expression of natural beauty and master craftsmanship. oxshottcollection.com/sa-1019-0101ca… #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Palermo Photophore Milestone II Going from left to right Left is a “drawing” of the new Palermo Photophore. Center is the new Palermo Shade Cup (actual finished component in brass) Right is the new brass shade cup for Palermo installed on a Lapis Lazuli Registan Photophore oxshottcollection.com/sa-1019.html #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Palermo Development Milestone At first glance, almost everything shown here is a Registan Photophore. The center pieces are Registan Photophores crafted in Aventurine stone, traditionally associated with luck and success, and Registan in sand-cast brass. Both are shown with hurricane shades (selected from our extensive collection of shapes, sizes, and colors). The photophores on the far left and far right are Registan Photophores sculpted from solid Lapis Lazuli, a stone often associated with wisdom and truth. These examples are displayed without hurricane shades. So why is this a proof of concept for the Palermo Photophore? The answer lies in the photophore on the far right. While the body is the familiar Registan design, the shade cup has been replaced with the newly developed Palermo shade cup. Those who have followed my recent posts will recognize the Palermo project through its design drawings, mold development, and production updates. What you see here is the first finished brass component produced for the Palermo Photophore. The shade cup has been successfully cast, finished, and fitted to an existing photophore, demonstrating that the design translates beautifully from concept and mold to a functional, finished object. This is an important milestone in the Palermo development process. It validates both the aesthetics and manufacturability of the design and represents the first physical realization of the Palermo Photophore. oxshottcollection.com/sa-1019.html #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Learning to grow coconuts in the mountains. Oxshott Collection is blessed with good craftsmen and good manufacturing. Yet given how this community of traditional craftsmen and manufacturing is withering on the vine, we keep trying to research new ways to do the same old things. Crying over the dwindling pool of skills and facilities to do what we could easily do years ago is not going to get us anywhere. It is more productive to focus on advances in metallurgy. We can today make better quality brass. We can make molten brass flow better (very helpful during the casting process). Likewise, we have more avenues to make the mold faster (and yes better). I rather focus on all the skills and facilities we have today that give us a qualitative edge over how things were done years ago. Yes, “we cannot grow coconuts by the beach in a coastal area”. So what ? With the new knowledge, we will collectively find ways to grow Coconut in the mountains. If you truly want something very much, then every particle of this universe will conspire to make it happen. Indeed, we will figure out how to grow coconuts in the mountains too. See here the progress in Palermo Photophore since the initial 3D drawing. We have gone beyond the 3D printing of the mold. We now have the mold of the bobeche in Wax in our back pocket. By end of this week, we will have the wax mold of the hurricane shade cup ready also. By middle of next month, we will have the complete sample in brass ready (polished and ready to unveil). No, we will not spike the ball in the end zone. We will move onto the next challenge. oxshottcollection.com #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Palermo Photophores (Drawings) Classroom, playing field and falling leaves in autumn. These may appear like some random things on a list, but diverse experiences influence us and over time they shape us. Few words at the right time, go a long way to make us what we are. Mirza Ghalib (27 December 1797 – 15 February 1869) a poet philosopher once said “All my life I have repeatedly made the same mistake The dust was on my face, but I wiped the mirror” Kevin Costner once said “If you build it, they will come” Yes, Mirza Ghalib, Kevin Costner, AND the rooftop domes of Sicily, have influenced what you see here. oxshottcollection.com #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

There is this legend that Hammurabi of Babylon (1810 BC to 1750 BC) was helped by “Giants” in reviving the knowledge that was lost during the Great Flood of 2348 BC. Yes, periodically our connection to the past gets disrupted and an effort must be made to reconnect. For the interior design industry, the period between the beginning of the Financial Crash of 2008 and the end of Covid-19 was in some ways a mini version of the “Great Flood” (we lost a lot of knowledge & skill sets that are essential to make legacy fixtures). Today we don’t have access to Hammurabi’s Giants 🙄, we are therefore left to ourselves to revive this lost knowledge. Complicating this pursuit is that to sustain any revival, new & young patrons are needed. Someone who can pass down the appreciation to the next generation and beyond. At Oxshott Collection we are doing whatever we can to bring back traditional craftmanship. Additionally, to attract new generations of patrons we are sort of “subsidizing” the price. You would be hard pressed to find our quality (raw material & craftmanship) at less than twice the price. It is as if we are trading off NBA star players for the value of unknown bench warmers, just so that we can attract young patrons and sustain the revival. Indeed, this is an uphill task, but we (the global village that is pursuing this) have borrowed some attitude from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s 1854 poem, “The Charge of the Light Brigade”. For the sake of everyone who has tirelessly contributed to make progress happen, I hope that history like Rudyard Kipling’s “The Last of the Light Brigade” will shed some light on this team effort. oxshottcollection.com/sa-1019.html #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Sarajevo Photophore (Limited Stock) This is a tall photophore. It is not carved out of soft wood and painted gold. It is sand cast and hand engraved brass. A lot of what we do is such limited-edition fixtures. We typically don’t even displayed such limited edition fixtures on the website. You will have to visit us to see them. Needless to say, a lot of hurricane shades (different shape, color and size) options to go with this photophore. oxshottcollection.com/sa-1334p.html #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

Registan Photophore (Now in Stock) Three images with three different hurricane shades. What these images don’t say is that we have 50 plus hurricane shades in different shapes, different size, different color and different design. There is something for everyone. The French Bronze (gold tone) sand cast and hand engraved brass base can be customized (if you prefer a different finish). We also have this in Aventurine Green (aka Powder Green Jade in some regions), Rock Crystal and Lapis Lazuli. The stone bases are sculptured from blocks of stone (not vaneer). oxshottcollection.com/sa-1019.html #hospitalitydesign #restaurantstyle #restaurantarchitecture #interiors #traditionalatchitecture #classicdetails #interiordesign #timelessdesign #classicalarchitecture #classicdesign #architecteinterieur #designanddecoration #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #luxedecor #oxshottcollection

New England Glass Company in 1827 invented pressed glass machines, but pressed glass was perfected by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. American Opaline Pressed Glass, aka Clam Broth Glass, aka Alabaster Glass, has its root in New England, MA. No Alabaster Glass (Clam Broth Glass) is not made from stone. It is not your regular glass either. It is a semi opaque translucent white glass. It is uniquely different from regular glass. We have a whole range of lighting fixtures in Opaline / Alabaster Glass. What you see here is frosted opaline pressed glass. Four carved wood backplates for Federal Sconces have now been added to our regular stock While we carry a lot of artisanal handmade lighting fixtures (in endless variations), 90% of what we do is custom. Basically, most of what we do is never displayed in a showroom (except in Fairfield, NJ) or on our website. Nonetheless from time to time, we take some popular custom items and make them part of our regular items. Recently we added four carved wood backplates to our regular items. Here you can see three (Pinecone, Scroll, and Acanthus) alongside the sconces it can be used with. oxshottcollection.com/wall/tradition… #decorcrushing #architecteinterieur #myhousebeautiful #currentdesignsituation #designanddecoration #dreamkitchen #homedecor #homedesign #homerenovation #homestyle #hospitalitydesign #interior123 #interior4all #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #interiordesign #interiorinspiration #oldhouselove #oxshottcollection #traditionalstyle #catchingthelight #livingwithantiques #curatedhome

Registan Photophore (Coming Soon) People ask, “In the era for Parm, why make products more suitable for Carbone ?” Sure, there is a propensity at Oxshott Collection to kick it up a notch, but we try to balance that out by offering multiple versions. For every John Smedley version, we also have a Fred Perry version. Truth be told we also offer an in-between Sunspel version. This Registan Photophore will be soon available in sand cast & hand chased brass. It will also come in a Lapis Lazuli Version. A jade version. In short there will be something for everyone. Plus, we have hundreds or different hurricane glass shades to go with this photophore. oxshottcollection.com/table/candle-s… #decorcrushing #architecteinterieur #myhousebeautiful #currentdesignsituation #designanddecoration #dreamkitchen #homedecor #homedesign #homerenovation #homestyle #hospitalitydesign #interior123 #interior4all #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #interiordesign #interiorinspiration #oldhouselove #oxshottcollection #traditionalstyle #catchingthelight #livingwithantiques #curatedhome

Registan Photophore (Progress Report) Cameron Conway (author & professor) says, “If pain is a pot of boiling water, humor can be the rising steam”. This connection between humor/creativity and pain is so well known that that in one way or the other, poets around the world ask, “What pain are you covering up with that smile ?”. Seen here are two versions of our Registan Rock Crystal Photophores. Some will see sheer beauty (a very valid observation); But others will look beyond the beauty and see labor, toil, and turbulence behind the creation. The process starts with the search for the appropriate stone. Bottom Right is Registan Rock Crystal Photophore made with 90% clarity stone. Top Right is made with 60% clarity stone. Same stone, but different clarity translates into different price points. Finding Rock crystal with just 30 to 50 % clarity is relatively easy, thereafter the search is exhausting (it is all about sweet patience). Once the stone is found (video on the left), carving & chiseling it into the end product without damaging the stone is another painful battle. A lot of individual efforts coalesced into making of this one fixture. I hope you like you. oxshottcollection.com/table/candle-s… #decorcrushing #architecteinterieur #myhousebeautiful #currentdesignsituation #designanddecoration #dreamkitchen #homedecor #homedesign #homerenovation #homestyle #hospitalitydesign #interior123 #interior4all #interiorarchitecture #interiordecorating #interiordesign #interiorinspiration #oldhouselove #oxshottcollection #traditionalstyle #catchingthelight #livingwithantiques #curatedhome
