Many people, even in Canada, don’t realize that the country has its own history of slavery and racial... fb.me/2IAJ1x8LK
We're excited to have Councillor @mary_margaret32 join us as our special guest at our Cabinet Meeting this Thursday. Our meetings are open to all youth 13-24! RSVP here: eventbrite.ca/e/march-cabine… #TOyouth
BREAKING: The commission that reviews complaints about the RCMP is undertaking a public interest investigation into how the force handled the 2016 shooting death of Colten Boushie in Saskatchewan.
@PeacebuildersCA @TOYouthCabinet Talking about how we’re supposed to get a receipt when #carded by #police - “The only receipts I know about are the ones you get when you go to the grocery store”
Can’t make it? Take our survey instead: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…
Loved talking about our experiences in #police interactions at our @PeacebuildersCA #YouthAdvisory tonight w. @TOYouthCabinet
At our @PeacebuildersCA #YouthAdvisory we talked about #academicstreaming and the need to differentiate tests from learning: “you can fail at tests. You can’t fail at learning “
Adults are more knowledgable of what's right from wrong than youth. You can't treat them the same.
Youth don't know right from wrong yet. They are not fully aware of the consequences for their actions.
Q3. Why should justice-involved 12-17 y.olds be treated differently from adults with the same charges? #youthjustice #A2J2017
Police question students in the hallways or in front of the school. Why do they do this?
Police should not be in school period! They'll be suspicious about certain students especially due to their race.
@PeacebuildersCA More supports and alternatives to charges! #A2J2017
@PeacebuildersCA The police could build better relationships with students #A2J2017
@PeacebuildersCA We'd feel safer if police were in school, less bad things would happen
@PeacebuildersCA A lot of students feel they can be stereotyped by the police #A2J2017
@PeacebuildersCA None. A lot of students have had bad experience with police outside of the school so don't want to see them inside of schools too.
@PeacebuildersCA Even just going into those spaces, like police stations and courts, can be scary. #A2J2017
@PeacebuildersCA Because youth are still growing up and learning from their mistakes. #A2J2017
Q2. It's hard to find a lawyer and access services to help you through the process.
