LGBTQ+ month is celebrated to honor the diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ communities. Aligning with Pride Month in June, it acknowledges the struggles and achievements of LGBTQ+ individuals, promoting education and awareness for equal rights and social acceptance.
Lesbian Visibility Day is observed every year on April 26th to enhance the recognition and presence of lesbian individuals. Join us as we honor and celebrate our lesbian loved ones.

James Baldwin is widely recognized by larger audiences as a distinguished writer, civil rights advocate, and thinker of the Harlem Renaissance's New Negro Movement. However, his impact on the LGBTQ+ community is equally noteworthy.
Laverne Cox stands as a contemporary trans Black pioneer. After joining the cast of Orange is the New Black, she became the first transgender individual to appear on the cover of TIME magazine. Additionally, she made history as the first trans person to win a Daytime Emmy.
Langston Hughes, a celebrated Black gay writer, was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance in pre-WWII New York. Despite a strained relationship with a father who disdained his own community, Hughes embraced his racial identity.
Activist and play write, Lorraine Hansberry's "Raisin in the Sun" was the first play by a Black woman on Broadway, highlighting racial segregation faced by Black Americans. It earned her the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, making her the first Black recipient.

PFLAG Jacksonville's Frieda Saraga Scholarship Program is all set to return for yet another year. This program, which has been instrumental in providing financial aid to LGBTQ+ students, has its applications posted and are due by June 1, 2025.
