Navigating Johannesburg securely is heavily built around situational awareness, situational layers, and minimizing predictability. Because opportunism drives a large percentage of suburban and inner-city crime, staying safe means making yourself a difficult, highly aware target. Driving and Vehicular Security The majority of vulnerable personal security moments in Joburg occur in or around vehicles. The Golden Hour Habit: Lock your doors the absolute second you close them, before you put the key in the ignition, adjust the mirrors, or touch your phone. Never sit in a stationary, parked car scrolling on your phone. Intersection Vigilance: When stopping at robots (traffic lights) or stop signs, leave enough room between your car and the one ahead to see their rear tyres. This gives you space to pull out and escape if approached. Keep your windows up and valuables completely out of sight (not on the passenger seat) to prevent smash-and-grabs. Driveway Awareness: Arriving home is a prime vulnerability point. Check your rearview mirror long before turning into your street. If a car has followed you through multiple turns, do not pull into your driveway. Drive past, circle the block, or head straight to the nearest police station or a busy, well-lit petrol station. Hide the GPS: If you are using your phone for navigation, mount it low down on the dashboard rather than prominently on the windscreen where it can be spotted from the street. Moving Around the City The Phone Down Rule: When walking in public areas, shopping centre car parks, or open streets, keep your phone entirely out of sight. Distraction makes you a primary target. Walk with intent, head up, making brief eye contact with those around you to signal that you are aware of them. Ditch the Headphones: Avoid walking or jogging with earbuds or headphones in. Ambient noise is your earliest warning system against approaching vehicles or footsteps. Ride-Hailing Best Practices: When using services like Uber South Africa or Bolt, always verify the vehicle’s registration plate and the driver’s face against the app before opening the door. Verbally ask "Who are you picking up?" rather than giving them your name first. Once inside, share your live ride status with a friend. Night Movements: Avoid walking anywhere on foot after dark, even for short distances in seemingly safe neighbourhoods. Move from secure parking direct to the entrance of your venue. Personal Items and Cash Bag Placement: When sitting at restaurants, never hang your handbag over the back of your chair or leave it on the floor under the table. Keep it on your lap, or loop the strap securely around your leg or arm. ATM Discretion: Avoid using street-facing ATMs entirely, especially at night. Use ATMs located inside secure shopping malls. If anyone approaches you or offers "help" while you are at an ATM, cancel the transaction immediately and walk away. Tech and Community Backups Safety Apps: Download a local security app with a mobile panic button linked to private armed response networks, such as Namola or your specific home security provider's app. Trust the Intuition: If a situation, a specific street, or a person feels off, do not worry about looking impolite. Turn around, change routes, or walk into a busy shop immediately. To tailor this advice, are you looking for tips for a specific neighborhood (e.g., Rosebank, Sandton, CBD) or a particular lifestyle need (e.g., solo travel, commuting, nightlife safety)?

🚨BREAKING: France wiped Google and Microsoft off 2.5 million government computers. Germany moved 30,000 PCs off Windows. Denmark dropped Microsoft Office. Here's exactly what they switched to and how to do the same:

Lack of focus has killed more dreams than lack of talent. Most people aren’t failing because they’re not good enough. They’re failing because they’re distracted, inconsistent, and spread too thin to ever master anything.

General Prince Mokotedi (Former Gauteng Hawks Head): On Paul O’Sullivan: 1. He captured the Scorpions. They used his Jet & paid him R150k 2. We took him to court for misusing his passports, i.e Irish, British & SA. 3. He's a fixer & involved in extortion & kidnapping 4.

@ntsikimazwai Coup d'etat in Madagascar, as the soldiers announce they're joining the "people" amid widespread protests. The country's leader President Andry Rajoelina has reportedly left the country

“Our fathers fought bravely. But do you know the biggest weapon unleashed by the enemy against them? It was not the Maxim gun. It was division among them. Why? Because a people united in faith are stronger than the bomb.” ~ Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o #WakeUpEverybody✊🏿

Do you remember when you joined X? I do! #MyXAnniversary

On this day in 1985, Mrs Victoria Mxenge was gunned down and hacked by four assasins hired by the security branch.

“Indian vigilantes are given a crash course in handling shotguns at Duffs Road near KwaMashu, after clashes refugees with African rioters…”-civil unrest in the Durban area in August 1985 after the assassination of Victoria Mxenge. Any parallels withPhoenix massacre in July 2021

Stop selling out. Stop selling out on each other.

Villagers are on this platform every day, complaining about the high cost of electricity in this country. Eskom and NERSA are not even listening to them. Doesn't help complaining on Twitter. WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? I've seen govts fall for far less.

R500 electricity. 109 units. Doesn’t even last 3 days. Can’t even turn heater on in cold winter…
