Re. Kimmel, it's pretty clear that 1) what he said about Kirk directly was anodyne, 2) what he said about the shooter was false, 3) an apology & correction would be good, failing that 4) firing him was acceptable and 5) ABC wanted an excuse to fire him and this was it.
