Left the hostel at 10.55, began hitching at 1. FIVE HOURS later we still hadn't got a lift! Loads of people sent us onto the old road south w/out telling us of the brand new E6. After walking a few miles & using many sympathy cards we got a lift out of town towards Skjeborg.
Here we got a lift from a trucker in a Scania lorry. He had Country & Western turned up full & was smiling constantly. He didn't speak English but immediately got on the CB radio to another trucker who did, & who told us that he was very excited to meet his first English people.
Another prejudice buried. But hang on, he said was going to Gothenburg, but 60km short, he pulls up in a quiet layby, jumps in the bed behind us, & immediately starts snoring but weirdly quickly. I slowly pull out the enormous knife I have hidden in my case.
All night, fearing attack, I stay dead still but wide awake, and ready with knife. Sensibly cautious or old fashioned prejudice? Maybe a little bit of both. We'll find out in the morning...
@PaulHeatonSolo So, as you were on the E6 in a truck….this one’s about a trucker driving up the E6 (albeit it in the opposite direction) open.spotify.com/track/60kcDWKK…
@PaulHeatonSolo Surely this entry should have ended a suspense dod dod dah and a voice over asking "Will Paul survive the night.........."
