Story time: Pitcher Pat Pacillo had to be fit on the roster so I got dropped. That is when I decided to retire as a player and become full time manager for the Reds. Staying in the atmosphere of baseball was my #1 goal. Too bad it didn't last long :/

I remember, my dad used to write me a letter every week. Tt the end of the letter, he would always put ‘keep hustling.’ That was his signature — keep hustling. That’s why I run to first on a walk. That’s why I slid headfirst. My love for sports comes from him no doubt.

I get a lot of hate from baseball fans who seem to have the exact same opinions as journalists who have written about me. They pick and choose what to write about me without giving the full story. Too much power.
I bet on baseball in 1987 and 1988. I knew it was a formal violation and did not know how drastic the penalties were going to be.
I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team, I believe in my team. I did everything in my power every night to win that game.
