Watching the Santa Monica City Council meeting rn and really appreciate @GleamDavis talking about sustainable modes of transportation.
Discussion moves to staffing shortages throughout Santa Monica. Santa Monica's jobs / housing ratio is 1.85. There is not adequate housing to accommodate the labor market in the city. Source: data.sustainablesm.org/stat/goals/3gc… #HousingCrisis
That is right, @suehimmelrich 80% of our workforce doesn't live in Santa Monica because they can't afford to live here. It really is that simple. Thank goodness SB 9 + SB 10 passed.
By a vote of 5-2 Santa Monica will join the OCCOG lawsuit claiming they don’t believe RHNA’s allocations of our city needing 8,874 homes. This motion was led by @PhilBrock4SM and our Mayor @suehimmelrich agreed. We are not a progressive city who wants to solve the housing crisis.
@BeingElenaLA @suehimmelrich An additional point. SM will seek an acceptable housing plan to satisfy our RHNA allocation on October 12th in the City Council chambers. We are prepared to meet the next night as well in order to submit the required plan.
