Break the rules! Despite what you might hear about "rules", experiment! Shoot from the hip, into the light, whatever...
Don't use the built-in zoom. The pic quality will suffer and you won't gain any detail. Just zoom on the viewer or computer later.

Put horizons in the right place. Sometimes, putting the horizon down low to emphasize a dramatic sky is preferable.
Experiment all the time. Try different angles, lighting, camera settings. Put the horizon lower down, put the face nearer the corner.
