Not surprised at all. Canadian legal immigration to the US is up 142% while almost every other country's dropped. That isn't a random blip. People move to where the opportunity is. America turns 250 this year, and for all of it, it has bet on capitalism. It's not perfect. It's messy, unequal at times, and loud. But it rewards the person who builds something, takes a risk, and works harder than the next guy. That's why it's still the country everyone's trying to get into. Canada went the other way. Bigger government payrolls, more regulation, more bureaucracy, more programs, and higher taxes on anyone who gets ahead. The results are in. A decade ago we were about 80% of US GDP per person, and now we're about 72%. StatCan says our growth per person since 2015 was well under half the US pace. Canadian households carry the highest debt in the G7. Look at who's building the future. Tesla, SpaceX, Nvidia, the big AI labs, all American. Even adjusted for the size of the economy, US companies in advanced industries spend about nine times more on research than Canadian ones. Only two of Canada's 25 biggest companies are in tech, Shopify and Constellation Software, and the rest are mostly banks and oil. Of the most promising startups Canadians founded in 2024, nearly half have already moved to the US. Even the Bank of Canada found that most of the gap with the US comes from top earners and business owners, and it named the brain drain of our best people heading south as a big reason. So when the ambitious ones leave, it's not disloyalty. It's math. A country that punishes success shouldn't be surprised when success packs up and moves. Canada can keep growing the government, or it can start rewarding the people who build. Right now, they're voting with their feet.

Peter Thiel saw this coming in 2020. Bury young people in debt and price them out of homes, and they stop defending capitalism, because they have no stake in it. Ackman's list is what happens next.

Premise: Incentives drive all human behavior. The corollary: How to destroy a country: A vast social security and support system that serves as a magnet for those who would rather not work. An open immigration policy that does not screen immigrants to determine their ability and willingness to provide for themselves and their families. An open immigration policy that does not screen for political and/or religious ideologies that are a threat to the country. Economic incentives large enough to incentivize immigrants on the state dole to have large numbers of children, but insufficient for educated and economically productive mothers to be able to quit to raise a family. The declining fertility of the most educated and productive women due to their delay to begin a family as a result of their desire and/or need to advance their careers, among other reasons, to live a life they deem consistent with their educational achievements and/or to repay their student debts. Amnesty programs that give citizenship and voting power to illegal immigrants without consideration of their economic productivity or their threat to the country due to their religious or political ideologies. The changing demographics and increased population due to the above factors. The state responding to protests by increasing social support. The continued failure to punish and hold accountable violent and looting rioters. Government managed by a massive and growing unelected bureaucracy. Government fraud, waste, and abuse contributed to ballooning budgets. Anti-business legislation that makes it difficult for businesses to compete in a global marketplace being disrupted by AI, including restrictions on firing even poorly performing employees. Overly burdensome, globally uncompetitive, corporate taxation. Continuous increases in personal taxes to raise funds to provide for the rapidly growing welfare state. The substantial majority of the tax burden levied on a small percentage of the population. A growing percentage of the electorate paying no taxes and receiving welfare. The introduction or threat of a wealth tax including the taxation of unrealized gains, i.e., taxes on paper wealth. The flight of the most productive business builders and highest taxpayers to lower tax countries with lesser security concerns. A growing percentage of the electorate voting for candidates that support increased welfare and laws favorable to, and/or that match the cultural and ideological needs and desires of a growing unproductive immigrant population. The rapid rise in anti-semitism and inadequate efforts to address this hatred. Increased borrowing by the state to fund the growing social burden. Higher sovereign interest rates due to all of the above. The resulting need to reduce expenditures to make the math work. Increasingly violent protests that make life less livable for the productive and law abiding citizens leading to their accelerated departure. And so on…

I have two accounts and I’m trying to understand what happens if I unify under my work email as the primary. Work email: Cursor Plus with all my Grok Bot history, memory, routines, and heavy usage. This is the Grok Bot account I actually use. Personal email: Grok Heavy + X Premium with all my Grok Heavy projects and my X account. Minimal Grok Bot usage here. Total right now is ~$490 CAD/month. I don’t use Cursor much. If I start unification from the work Cursor account and make it primary: 1. Will my existing Grok Bot history on the work account stay intact? 2. Will my Grok Heavy projects and regular Grok chat history from the personal account migrate over? 3. Will connecting my personal X account give me the X benefits under the new plan, and is that seamless? 4. What specifically would I lose or not transfer if I do this? The docs are clear on Grok Bot data moving, but not on regular Grok projects. Thanks.

@Dave_Eby "That tells British Columbians everything they need to know." Agreed, Dave. A decade of promises told us plenty. We just don't believe you anymore.

@TheEconomist The Economist wants the world to look to Canada for answers. Ask anyone living here how that's going: housing, a stalled economy, and a PM who gives great speeches in Davos. Same magazine Elon told, to its face, "They hate you far more than they hate me." Still true.

@zerohedge The EU can't build a satellite fast, but it can regulate one in record time.

@pablofindsout @DarthAmin @PabloTorre No audio, five minutes, one bird, and we're really doing frame-by-frame analysis on this? Can't wait for the director's cut.

@elonmusk @Teslaconomics @bot My Grok Bots hasn’t asked for a raise or a day off yet. Best hire I've made.

@rachcorrine Missing one: can name a feeling other than "fine."

@richardzussman Bold of the NDP candidate to call the other guy's plan shocking. Very independent analysis 🙄

Software used to leave the building on a disc. The valuable AI models never leave the server. You get a subscription and a chat box. Naval's right about the moat.

Naval @naval

Models are the last moat in software. AI can train on essays and rewrite them. AI can decompile software and recode it. AI can ingest art and recreate it. But AI itself doesn’t want to be “distilled.” Expect more software to retreat to the server and resist “distillation.”

@Tesla and @SpaceX create value, and every shareholder benefits when they grow. Bernie never built a company and still wants a cut of the ones that did. I’m tired of the Bernie’s of this world.

Elon Musk @elonmusk

@JohnStossel @SpaceX @Tesla This is simply due to my ownership stakes in SpaceX and Tesla. As those companies build more and more, their value increases and all shareholders benefit. The takers of the world who have never built anything, like Bernie, do as they always do and take from the makers.

@Dave_Eby Here’s Dave who spent 2022 calling this kind of project incompatible with climate targets. He is now accepting credit for a project he spent years treating like a problem. Horgan took the heat. Dave works the talking points. Same party. Different operators.

Well done @espn! Put me in front of a screen and hand me a snack, the NHL season is starting! 🍿🏒🔥
