How we feel about work comes mainly from our relationship with our manager. Their ability to listen deeply & empathy towards us is a strong indicator of how happy we are in our jobs; yet empathetic leadership isn’t prized in person specs or generally encouraged by organisations.

We're on what we're assured is the NW's VERY LAST Pacer train, currently making its way into Manchester. Pacers - bus bodies on a freight train chassis - were famously slow, cold and uncomfortable. They were supposed to be retired before 2000 but hung on. More on @BBCNWT at 1830

Mayors have done pretty well in various places but you can sense journalists' and broadcasters' relief that they can talk about 'the North East' and tier 2 without having to explain North of Tyne and Tees Valley.
