Three weeks ago Polymarket was 65% sure the Fed would do nothing yesterday It hiked. I pulled these numbers myself on August 25: No change: 65.5% Hike 25 bps: 33.5% Yesterday, 2pm ET: 25 bps hike. 3.75% to 4.00%. Unanimous, 12-0 First hike since July 2023 So the 33.5% side was right $100 on "hike" at 33.5c came back as $298. $100 on "no change" at 65.5c came back as $0 Now, before someone says it: a 33% shot landing doesn't mean the market was broken. That's literally what 33% means. One in three. But here's the part almost nobody trades: That price didn't jump. It crawled. 33.5c in late August. 87.5c by the time Warsh opened his mouth yesterday. Fifty-four cents of movement, spread across three weeks of data. You didn't need to call the Fed. You needed to be in the market while it changed its mind🤷‍♂️ That's the whole difference between betting a prediction market and trading one. One needs you to be right once. The other needs you to be there And the next one is already live, and it's a coin flip: October 27-28 meeting, right now: No change: 52.5% Hike 25 bps: 46.5% Six points apart.
