.@Chiefs @BuffaloBills this play; the cost of this play deserves some further discussion and yes I understand the rule. But Why? #BaldysBreakdowns
@BaldyNFL @Chiefs @BuffaloBills Mr Baldinger, I am an old HS Ref. That play is consistent across all levels of Football. Coaches' know the rule and should instruct players accordingly. Tough to get all levels to change. Godspeed.
@PowercatEng @BaldyNFL @Chiefs @BuffaloBills Question: Defense intercepts the ball in the end zone. Rather than take a knee for the touchback, defender tries to run it out. While he’s running it out and still in the end zone, he fumbles the ball out of bounds in his own end zone. Who gets the ball and where?
@joekornik @BaldyNFL @Chiefs @BuffaloBills Mr Kornik, once the Def takes possession of the ball and loses it out of bounds in the endzone it is a SAFETY. This is no different from the QB, Punter, or RB fumbling out of the endzone. Now when does the interceptor take possession and does not invoke a touchback is trickier
@PowercatEng @joekornik @BaldyNFL @Chiefs @BuffaloBills Wrong! A player has to establish the ball in the field of play before anyone can record a safety. An interception would have to be run into the field of play and then run back into the end zone.
@PowercatEng @joekornik @BaldyNFL @Chiefs @BuffaloBills Are you saying if a cab intercepts attempts to run out but gets tackled in the endzone it’s not invoking a touchback and could also be a safety?
