Happy World Wetlands Day! These areas work hard for us everyday by mitigating flood risk, protecting shorelines from erosion, filtering out toxins and contaminants from water, providing habitat for wildlife, and more. Let's keep working to restore and conserve our wetlands!
Today we join people around the world celebrating Word Wetlands Day! #WWD2024 On the Canadian Prairies, wetlands (ponds/sloughs) support biodiversity and make us more resilient to climate change and extreme weather 💧🦆 Read more: theconversation.com/to-be-resilien… via @ConversationCA

Currently enjoying holiday time back home in NZ and made it a priority to visit Tāne Mahuta - the oldest living kauri tree. Estimated to be over 2000 yrs with a diameter of 4.4m. Being in the presence of such an ancient tree brings some people to tears. I was in absolute awe

The #beaver colony whose actions we are studying thought there was a bit too much water in one of the ponds or not enough in their downstream ponds. So they poked a hole in the dam, partially drained the pond, and then patched up the leak! #cameratrap #DamCam

To put the intensity of snowmelt 2023 in context can compare point scale snow depth data against 2022 at our @LFCE_usask station. Took around 11 days to melt ~15cm snow depth in 2022 versus 3 days to melt ~22cm of depth snow in 2023. So ~ 5x faster this year.
