@Filii_libertas Solid list. Cheapest way to start: fill clean soda bottles from the tap, write the date on them and swap every 6 months. And if a storm is coming, fill the bathtub too so you've got water for flushing.
@GigiisTx1968 "You don't have to know what's coming to be prepared for what might" is a great line. The neighborhood plan is the one most people skip, and in a real outage it's often what helps the most.
@CedarRivers Good summary. The rolling stock point is the one people miss: no special "prepper food" needed, just a few extra of what you already eat, oldest first. Here in the Netherlands it's the same 72 hours under "Denk vooruit".
Power cut tonight? Don't light candles, build a lamp 💡
Strap a head torch around a bottle of water (light facing in) and one small beam becomes a soft glow for the whole room. No head torch? Phone torch facing up, bottle on top.
I live below sea level. One dike between my town and the water.
So I made sure my family is ready for 3 days without power, internet or signal.
Would you know what to do? #preparedness#blackout
@StirlingCouncil Thanks for the updates. For anyone in the area still without power tonight: call 105 for updates and to join the Priority Services Register if someone at home is vulnerable, and please knock on an older neighbour's door to check they're warm.
@NWSWPC Good reminder. Easy ones people skip: keep the car tank at least half full, charge power banks before the storm hits, and write a few key phone numbers on paper in case your phone dies. Small stuff, big difference.
Phones and internet down. Family in different places. Do you have a meeting point agreed?
Most people don't 👀 A spot near home, one further away, and a fixed time to check in. Takes 5 minutes to sort.
@CHH117L Typical, wind finally drops and then the lights go 😩 Hope it's back quickly. Keep the fridge and freezer shut and a torch handy, and pop 105 in if you want an update from the network.
@MIKE_CAVS_UK Watching a game-winner on half a bar of 4G in a power cut is peak stress 😂 Glad it was worth it! Keep a power bank charged for the next one, a dying phone on top of that would've been brutal
@AlauraNights24 Oof, sorry about the drive 😣 Might be worth a small UPS for the PC at some point, it gives you a few minutes to save and shut down properly when the power drops. Hope the storm calms down soon!
@xQueen_Piscesx It's mostly because 3 days is roughly how long it can take to get power, water or help back to everyone after something like a big storm. It's a starting point, not a limit. Plenty of people build up to a week or two over time
@Deeploomatic No need to panic buy a wind-up one. Any small radio that runs on normal batteries does the job, and your car radio works too. Just keep a few spare batteries with it 📻
The EU, Sweden, the Netherlands and now the UK are all asking the same thing: be ready for 3 days 🏠
Not panic, just a few basics. How many days could your home last? 👇
