Defending principles ONLY when it benefits you or your team doesn't mean you're "principled" -- it means you're using the cloak of principle to justify self interest. If it's truly a principle, you defend it when it costs you. And you defend it even harder when it hurts.

"Hate speech" is just "speech I personally hate" -- there's no objective category. Which means if the gov't starts doing this, then there's no end to it -- and who gets prosecuted will be determined solely by which party is in power.
