Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) software tools for engineers. Free to start. Clock a build, optimize its build time, or check a post-processing path.printpilotpathfinder.comJoined October 2026
We've expanded access to the Post-Processing Procedure Recommender and the Build Time Predictor & Optimizer for laser powder bed fusion. Start free in 9 countries: the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Japan, South Korea and Israel.
Introducing the Material Strength Predictor & Optimizer, in public beta. Predicts laser powder bed fusion coupon tensile and yield strength with uncertainty. Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) only for now; we're working hard to expand to more materials. Free to try.

@DabsMalone Skull with crossbones but instead of crossbones, use a wrench and screwdriver. Maybe add a texturized surface to the skull to make it look like as built 316L or another material.
@thesupermannx Inference is too slow to be practical. Maybe an MoE-like setup where the full model is only used on tokens that are making an actual decision and simpler prediction for other tokens like MTP but with a model with large tokens? Think there's some existing literature on this.
A real Build Time Estimator run on an LPBF clevis bracket. It searched build orientations, kept only poses that meet the residual-stress and thermal-risk requirements you set, and found one that cuts the job from 14.9 h to 10.7 h (28% faster).

@ErganisCan This is some interesting research. Can we discuss the commercial licensing over DM? While we don't imminently plan on using it for our products, the research is relevant for our tools and some tools that are still in development, so it could be useful in the future.
@akshansh_mishra Incredible! I am so glad I saw this post, this will be very useful. The rest of PrintPilot Pathfinder and I will be using this for future research and tool development/testing
@Metals_MDPI Useful if you heat treat LPBF 316L for chloride service. In 3.5% NaCl, pitting and repassivation potentials fell as the anneal went from 500 to 1000 °C and the as-built cell structure faded. Authors favor 500 °C for corrosion-critical parts. Tricky if you need stress relief too.
Quoting a laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) job? Upload the STL, set units and which face sits on the plate, and clock a low/point/high time band.
Or search for a faster orientation that keeps the requirements you set. If none exists, that's the answer.

@ash_twtz I’ve thought the same thing but it would be so heavily regulated due to monopoly concerns (though it would likely still succeed), but the company ideologies are very hard to reconcile
@JustARedditNerd@BrianMRey Coding use cases. There are not any really good, free services that let users code well, all of them are paid (like claude code, cursor, codex, etc.)
Easily Python. It is the best language for learning programming. AI is really good at python, though, so if your goal is to not just learn but also gain a very valuable skill that will stay valuable for longer, GoLang is not a bad choice. Agents are not very good at low level langs
PrintPilot Pathfinder builds tools for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) engineers. The tools are free to start. Supported use is the United States and Canada.
Two tools are live.
Build time: Upload the part and set the units yourself. Clock a pose for a build time estimate and look for a faster orientation that still meets the property requirements you set (fatigue-critical, residual stresses, anisotropy, etc.). Clock returns a point estimation alongside its uncertainty. A faster pose is a time result under the limits you set.
Post-processing: Describe the part and the constraints. The tool suggests a procedure path based on a large corpus of LPBF research and attaches the reasoning and citations, so you can check it. This is decision-support for a qualified engineer or metallurgist.
