4 to 8 parties via mixed proportional representation would eliminate the need for primaries. No primaries = gender parity & diversity. However, primaries are necessary given that the Electoral College forces us into 2 parties. UK & Canada are multi-party with FPTP voting.

Almost everyone rightfully hates gerrymandering. But remember this: you cannot fix the unrepresentativeness of gerrymandering without abolishing single member districts. It's just math and geography, people.

My mind was blown when I saw the scene of Data talking about the Irish Unification of 2024. I don't think it will happen in 2024, but if the pain of Brexit continues it could happen in this decade.
Too bad LBJ didn't lean harder into this. Back then, there was enough trust between the 50 states to develop a nationwide election agency needed for a national popular vote. Today, the hostility between blue & red states makes it very risky to implement a national popular vote.

Yep. The three most predictive structural features of presidential elections are: 1. Perceptions of economic health in the months prior to election 2. Popularity of the incumbent 3. How long the incumbent party has been in office.
I would add that there hasn't been pressure (like 1968 DNC violence) for a primary system to develop in Canada & UK because they use parliament system. This makes it much easier to have multiple parties even w/ FPTP voting. The Electoral College is a two-party straight-jacket.

Given how frustrated so many Americans are with our political system, I would say the American people are ready to think differently and adopt a parliamentary system.
