Climate change: how bad could the future be if we do nothing? I developed this table of impacts for my book 📕 ‘Climate Change: A Very Short Introduction’ based on the @IPCC_CH 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 reports Beyond 1.5°C #ClimateChange impacts gets worse and worse
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Well done Mark. Problem I find is trying to explain what the climate emergency is. I tried that with my book from a green activist point of view. People seem to live in their own bubble which is kept afloat by a media interested in trivia and distracting people. Chris Philpott
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Sucks that most of the temperature increase is because of the sun. We could reduce the entire planets lifestyle ... The problem is we are focusing on the wrong issue. Climate WILL change how do we adapt, grow more food, build to survive weather extreme. Thrive. Stop the Fear
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 The Holocene, has been mostly warmer. I would say.
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Bottom line unless nuclear power is included and placed as a first line option then it will be all about a transfer of wealth.
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Is there an associated ppm?
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 This would be a lot more meaningful with actual numbers on it (which I realise would be a lot more work). "Major", "Increase" etc. gives me no sense of actual impact. How many people dislocated, deaths, metres rise etc.?
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Based on @IPCC? Really? Those who bothered to check know they are using RCP8.5 in their modeling. This table is meaningless. We have come in just below RCP2.5 for decades, a benign pathway of CO2 emissions! You are spreading disinformation like the WEF!
@ProfMarkMaslin @Net2Ayurveda @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Can you see the bigger picture 👇🏻 There was no Industrial Revolution to blame for the other peaks, and no NetZero to bring about the (devastating) ice ages. Take your impoverishing demigod concepts off the table. Climate will change ( v slowly) without you. Without any of us.
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Here is the problem I have with a lot of the commentary on climate change. We all know the planet is warming, and anyone who says otherwise won't be convinced by doomsday stories. We need to be talking about what can be changed now, things that will make people's lives better.
@ProfMarkMaslin @IPCC_CH @globalhlthtwit @OUPAcademic @UCLgeography @KHayhoe @DrSimEvans @MayorofLondon @Sir_David_King @DavidLammy @sabrodrigues61 Adapt to climate, fix the environment. There is no crisis.
