Hi @nicknorwitz. The most important point is that muscle glycogen/carbohydrate is not an obligatory fuel for any form of exercise performance. Fat can do it just as well. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… The sole "obligatory" role of carbs is to prevent hypoglycemia during more prolonged exercise. Importantly there are two glucose pools in the body - a small one in the blood stream and liver and the large one in muscle. They are differentially regulated. This has yet to be properly appreciated.

@ProfTimNoakes @nicknorwitz even if we neglect the role of CHO for energy ,where we can get CHO for glycoproteins ,glycolipids , blood groups,and immunoglobulins ? ..there is no metabolic pathway for transformation of fatty acids to glucose ..the molecule of glycerol can produce 1/2 molecule of glucose cont
@ProfTimNoakes "This has yet to be properly appreciated" My easy peasy set of >100 push-ups w/ one-handers and muscleups in the context of depleted liver glycogen, normal blood sugar and happily repleted muscle glycogen begs to differ. youtu.be/r6oPwDbrFjQ Biopsy? I volunteer as tribute
@ProfTimNoakes @nicknorwitz You are talking utter bollocks mate. Tell me something - if you have optimal levels of all of muscle and liver glycogen and fats, which gets use first and which gets used last in footracing. Think on this carefully.... (-;
@ProfTimNoakes @nicknorwitz Tim has actually not got this incorrect, unfortunately. No muscle contraction of any muscle fiber is possible without glycogenolysis. Please review the seminal works of Shulman & Rothman (early 90's). This fact has no bearing on whether dietary carbs are required. They are not.
