Jackson Flora’s data from yesterday’s debut is pretty spectacular. He averaged 97.1 mph on his four-seam with 17 iVB, the raw spin capacity elite at 2513 RPM. Flora averaged ~7 ft. of extension, a large (somewhat expected) boost from his 6.5 ft. mark at UCSB. Shape projects as pretty average with an MLB ball, but sitting 96+ with that extension makes the pitch Major League plus. The previous “slutter” has shaped into more of a true cutter, adding significant velocity and lift from the college season. 90 mph, 12 iVB, -5 hb at 2702 RPM. The carry and horizontal separation from the four-seam project very strong, although relative velocity is somewhat slow. More of a bridge pitch/contact mitigator than a whiff inducer. Perfectly fine given the other two secondaries. Flora threw his sweeper 4 mph harder than his season average as a Gaucho, 84.4 mph at -14.7 hb 2764 RPM. That shape puts him on a shortlist of the best sweepers in baseball. Should kill RHH with consistent enough zone rates. MILB pitch tracking can sometimes be inconsistent, but Flora’s kick changeup yesterday averaged just 753 RPM, a massive drop from 1552 RPM at UCSB. He threw three ~2 iVB, one at -4 iVB, and one massive cut with 7 iVB and -4 inches of gloveside movement. May be related to first time pitching with MILB balls? Either way, the movement on 4/5 he threw was easily plus, averaging 90 mph. He’ll certainly need to add a sinker to help protect the average four-seam shape. A gloveside offering with significant depth will be critical as well to supplement the east-west arsenal, either his college curveball or a true gyro slider.
